What size tires are you running?

I have the 245/45-19 stock tires on now but in the future when I need a new set, I'd like to get something wider (without buying new wheels).

What are my options? How wide can we go with 19" stock wheels?

Would love to see pics too.

I'm getting away from 19's altogether. I'll go to 20's because 19 are just too expensive. I was comparing prices the other night and 19 were averaging 450 more than 20's. I don't know how that will affect my 3:73 too much for me to figure out at the moment but $450 or so in my pocket is something I can live with.

I think the factory 19's are 8.5" wide? Someone should be able to confirm that.

Once you know the wheel width, you can check the tire manufacturer's recommended wheel width for a specific tire. For example Tire Rack has this information on their web site, for each specific tire. Stick with the tire manufacturer's recommended wheel width.

On 8.5" wide wheel I'm pretty sure you can go to at least 255 wide tire.

Like John said, i wouldn't go any wider than 255 on a 8.5 inch wheel.
But i know some have moved to 275, which i think represent a safety risk.
I'm personally running 275/40's front and 285/40's rear on SVTPP wheels which are 10 inch wide rear and 9 inch front.

The Brembo Package has 9" rims, and the 255's were stock. Just taking a "WAG" (wild !@# guess) at it I'd say 245 would be enough on a 8.5" rim. like the man said check it out.

255/40R19s are about as wide as you'll want to go with an 8.5 wide wheel. When your looking at tires, check the specs and it should have an approved rim width range that allows the tire to operate safely and maximize the benefits of using that tire.

Also keep in mind as you approach the minimum rim width for a particular tire it effects both the section width and responsiveness of the tire which in turn can effect the way the vehicle responds.

As an example, running a tire on the minimum rim width specified would dull steering response but give a bit better ride since the sidewall is easier to deform. Run a tire on a the maximum rim width and the opposite will occur, steering response will improve while the ride will deteriorate.

The change in section width can also have an effect on the amount of tread in contact on the ground. Approaching the minimum range the edges of the tire will be pulled up and the contact patch will be reduced, conversely approaching the maximum width would allow for a flatter patch with more contact on the road.

My oem wheels are the 19" premium niickel. They are 8.5" wide, with oem 245/45 19 tires. Per Tire Rack.com, the oem tires are

for the 18" stock wheel 235/50's at overall diameter of 27.2"
for the 19" premium wheel 245/45's at overall diameter of 27.7"

assuming that the 18" stock wheel is the baseline, and a maximum plus sizing of 3 per cent, that would allow a 28" overall diameter tire. There are a few 255/45 19's that fall into that range, but the selection is limited, and most are summer only instead of all season.

I don't like the fit of the oem tires on my 19" rims too much, because it looks like the sidewall is stretched out a bit as if mounted on too wide a rim (which it is not, according to specs). 255/45's would look better, and I may go for that next set of tires. I don't want 40's.

If there is anyone running 255/45's on their oem 19" , please post !!
