what is the "diaper"?

The diaper is constructed out of sour grapes and can only be seen by those loyal to the 2005-09 style Mustangs.
Kidding aside, the tail of the '10+ cars isn't as well executed as the rest of the amazing body. There's just a bit too much air under that plastic.

It's more of a "diaper" on the Mustang than the Camaro because it extends all the way across and connects to the side black moulding, making it appear to wrap around the whole bottom like a diaper wrapping around the waist. If they had kept it just in the back like on most other cars (including the camaro) it would look better IMO.
The diaper and the front "mutton chops" are the two design elements I just can't get past on the '10+. The mutton chops are fairly easy to change with a chin spoiler or new front fascia, but noone has come up with a good alternative for the rear yet IMO. I'm holding out hope for 2014 'cause i want a 5.0!

Agree
Makes the rear look incredibly large if its all painted.
Semi painted like the old GT/CS of 05-09 might not look so bad if it was integrated more, but because of the break up line on the back, it looks funny if its painted partly too.

Worse yet is the downward lines that conflict with the upward lines of the upper bumper cover and upward slant of the tail lights. Conflicts instead of compliments. Doesn't know if its happy or sad. Must be bi-polar.

Agreed. And from side angles it sort of makes the trunk appear saggy as if its full and dragging. LOL

Don't care for it at all. I get it, they're trying to pay homage to the original, but I just think that center exhaust is difficult to execute on these cars. The 05-09 Saleens probably did it the best. By making it flat it sort of blended with the broad lines of the rear fascia.

Its just tough nowadays with bumper covers. Back in the day the bumper itself broke up the size of the rear end.
