Went to the track tonight...
Drag radials, properly aired down and heated, are absolutely critical to drag racing a 420+ hp car. I NEVER go to our local tracks on street tires. You can get a set of "take off" factory wheels (17's or 18's) for super cheap (I got mine for free) and drag radials aren't horribly expensive ($400-$600 for a pair).
Another thing, the magazines use maximum rollout. When you were staging were you staging as shallow as you can? What I mean is were you just rolling into the second beam or were you slowly rolling in and stopping the very instant the bottom bulb comes on?
Basically, you want to stage as shallow as you can where you barely turn on the second bulb. That gives you a longer rolling start before the ET timer starts. Another trick is a taller front tire. That at many tracks also means a longer rolling start. Without getting into specific details why it won't, but it won't necessarily work at every track using a taller tire. Some tracks limit rollout.
So basically to match what the car magazines do, you'd need similar weather, similar tires, and a similar rollout to make sure you have the same "rolling start" before starting the timer.

I was trying to shallow stage..a couple of times I got too close and deep staged. I can't remember if I was shallow or deep on my best run though. I'll make sure to shallow stage every time next time.

I'm just going to have to add more power in the future.
Took the 2013 GT to the track tonight at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indy. It was my first time running the car ever, and only second time racing at a drag strip. My first run was pretty horrendous, but I started getting better. My best was a 13.14 @109mph. After that I lost grip really bad on my final run, then the track closed. I had a real hard time getting the launch down in this car. I'd either bogg it or be spinning into 3rd. I was quite disappointed and was hoping I could get into the 12's as these cars are capable of that, stock. I had a great time though and need to go back next week and practice more. I do feel a bit guilty because its pretty hard on the car
Do you think its my 3.31's that kept me out of the 12's?

You need full suspension before any others mods are done. The rear end in these care are completely setup wrong from the factory.
I get a sense you're chasing a unicorn...there will be many tire replacements in your future. Sounds like your real deficit is experience. Don't see why learning on proper equipment like radials isn't a good thing.
Only with the manual trans cars. My '14 GT automatic has 100% factory stock suspension and cuts 60' times in the 1.6's consistently. My '07 GT automatic did so, as well. My '11 Brembo GT manual needed aftermarket adjustable control arms to get the pinion angle correct to launch like that.
I lost pretty much all wheel hop when I lowered the car, and the thrust angle is only 0.4 degrees off with the stock panhard rod. Would aftermarket control arms really help all that much? Wouldn't that money be better used on a CAI/Tune?
12.8@112 in 2013 GT Track Pak w Bassani axlebak.
No real hard launch, no burnout...just rolled up to line and took off just like getting on freeway on ramp. No spin, no hop. Went thru traps just barely bouncing off rev limiter.
Did it a couple of times, low 60 ' s temps.
Tried the whole Think About Launch method, tires would spin, wheels would hop so I fig r's try it a few times without thinking about it and seemed to work.

Ignorance is bliss sometimes; would like to get back to track sometime this year to give 'keep it simple' another try.
Had a 2008 GT with 3.31's...went to 4.10' and even with LCA's, went no faster/quicker Launch problems combined with one extra shift due to 4.10's negated any possible gains. Oops...for those cars, 3.55's generally yielded best times from what I read on forum ET lists.
Sometimes what seems obvious...isn't. Especially when it's amateur hour with respect to driver.

Why do you care about a time, on the street?
