Well, so I missed...
Try downshifting to second instead of fourth at 75mph in an emergency attempt to avoid a massive collision. Luckily I didn't come fully out of the clutch when I realized my error and corrected it.
The wreck was avoided.
The waste of life in the Pontiac Parisienne on 26" wheels made his way along.
My entire drivetrain is likely upset with me, although there are no signs of damage. Hopefully nothing happens as a result of this.

At least you weren't at the track where people were outright watching you! I miss shifts once in a while and all my vehicles are manual, including the Kenworth I drive 60+ hours a week.
Good that you caught it in time, I did it once and it was pretty damned scary when the engine yelled at me...
Worse, I was with my wife.
DISCLAIMER: For you guys at the Ford Warrenty department, this was just a joke. If this had been an actual occurance, I would've kept it to myself.
Yeah, this is worse than a missed shift; a missed shift hits the limiter and you're done, you pop that clutch out in the wrong gear and you've overshot redline by 1-2000 RPM and goodnight Irene.

did that in my camaro in 1991 went from 3rd to 2nd @100 mph.. dont ask..
8 of 16 valves bent.. car still ran 14.6 in the 1/4 that day.
idled like it had a huge cam..
Done it a couple of times in 2500 miles so far, once with a somewhat coarse grind. No harm no foul, but maybe a couple of extra particles clinging to the magnetic drain plug on the tranny. The 2-3 shift isn't the quickest or smoothest anyway.
BTW, love your avatar. It looks like the other half of the same car as mine.

Any copyright infringment on my part?

Great idea, one last mode for the end of summer. The Wife shouldn't be to upset with that change based on the ribbing I received.

Don't feel bad, I was about to pass by doing a 6-4 shift last night and even though the shifter in my Honda centers I still didn't pull it off. I just got embarassed, put it back in 6th and putted along. Sure made a lot of noise but wasn't successful. Still working on it.
try this... instead of putting your hand over top of the shift ****, turn your hand so that it is heel up with the palm pressing on the side of the **** at about the 7:00 position then push forward and to the right. You'll hit that 4-5 shift every time.
So my hand should be like a handshake position with my palm slightly angled ? - Thanks for the tip! I was subtly looking for advice!
Not quite... your hand will be in a handshake position but upside down (with the heel up and the thumb pointing down). Think of the Karate Kid deflecting kicks.
This allows you to push the shift **** forward and away from you all in one motion so that there is no chance it will go into 3rd instead. It might feel awkward the first few times you try it but once you get used to it you'll never miss another 4-5 shift.
