Warranty Question

I know there have been a lot of questions about warranties and I think I understand that as long as the dealership cannot prove the mod caused the specific problem, it won't be voided, but here is my question.

Why can my friend take his 2011 Camaro to his dealership and have Kooks headers, a CAI, and a tune installed and still keep his warranty intact but I cannot? Basically I love the car but wish Ford was as open as the particular Chevy dealership I'm talking about...

if the dealership install it, they can maintain the warranty since "chevy" installed it... same would go for frpp, if ford installs their kits they stand behind it

Be careful in assuming the burden of proof is on the dealership. That might not be the case, and if you put something on aftermarket, if you go to them with a problem they can very easily tell you it's the aftermarket equipment that caused it. In that case, the burden of proof will be on you to prove that it didn't cause whatever problem you brought it in for. Just a head's up. If the dealership installs it, they'll be responsible for it.

Just go talk to the service managers at the various Ford dealerships in your area and ask them how they would handle warranty work in regards to the mods you wish to make, otherwise you might as well be at the Craps table throwing dice.

Incorrect info according to Ford's TSB on the 5.0. They can tell when you're ECU has been flashed.

They can only tell if your 5.0 ecu is shipped back to ford for examination. The dealership cannot tell.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I could get away with a tune, CAI, and catback exhaust, but I wouldn't want to go past that. I do want to lower the rear end to make it level with the front though. I wonder if the FRPP springs will work and if my dealership can install them...

How do they tell?

What is the exact process and what is shown?

We've heard "they can tell" multiple times but nobody can seem to tell us what shows when they look for an ecu flash and how it differentiates from a battery disconnect, etc.

I read they have a counter as to the number of times it has been flashed and that it cannot be reset by factory or Dealer or tune. But I can't substantiate that as to source from memory. On the TSB about tunes maybe? (which came after a few #8 fails.)

Also, I believe I read in the mag rags for the new '11 that Ford implemented a more restrictive policy for the 5.0 than the 4.6.
