It's not necessarily one or the other. Dealers can code orders "Retail" or "Stock" or "XPlan" or "APlan". Right now Ford is only pulling stock orders. That might be great for you right now, but after the OK to Buy retail sales will have priority.

Sparky are you hearing anything about when retail sales will be pulled?

What about APlan?

I have only circumstantial evidence for this, but does the engine choice have anything to do with when orders are getting dates?

Nothing yet. I've got a friend that's supposed to let me know; that said we might hear it here first because he works days, and I work nights and if he emails me at 9AM I won't read it until 11:30PM that night.

Thanks for keeping the information flowing Sparky! Stop in at Queenston road on a Friday nite in the spring. I'll buy you a coffee.

Retail, A-Plan and X-Plan are all retail sales and won't be pulled until the OK to Buy is given. That won't be given until certain criteria is met at the plant. Usually its 2 or 3 days of error-free build (meaning no major assembly errors) as to work out any bugs in the error-proofing system.

For your second question, yes, what engine, transmission, trim level, coupe/convertible etc. all apply to what is referred to as "mix". There are certain "mix levels" that are allowed, based on what the assembler load is and what parts the suppliers can supply in a given amount of time. Obviously, if the engine factory can only provide the Mustang plant with 1000 5.0s a day, the max number of GTs is 1000. Same with convertible roofs, saddle seats, NAV packages, etc. It's a somewhat complex system, and all of these have bearing on when they can pull your order.

The only advice I can give is "don't sweat the details", it's beyond your control.
