V6 Interstate fuel economy run

V6 Interstate fuel economy run
Okay, did a run up to Dallas this a.m.
Filled up in Conroe, TX just before getting on the interstate, drove to Dallas and filled it up and did the calculation.
Set the cruise just above 65, on about 66 or 67 mph, as you all know it is hard to tell the exact speed by the speedometer since the needle is so long and wide it covers the hash marks up pretty well. I did slow down when the speed limit dropped to 60 in Dallas county.
Went 187.8 miles and it took only 5.26 gallons to fill it resulting in a 35.7 MPG!
And that number may be a little less than the actual number as I clicked the nozzle about 4 times after it shut off instead of just one like I normally do because I couldn't believe it didn't take more to fill it up.
And for those of you who are not familiar with I-45 between Houston and Dallas, it is almost all big rolling hills, very little flat level highway.
These cars are truly amazing and great!
What other 305 HP car with the capabilities this one has can do as well?
Digging it more and more every day!
When I head home on Monday I plan to run at the speed limit which is 75 MPH for about half the distance and other varying speeds between 60 and 70 for the rest of the miles and we will see how much the mileage suffers.

Only have a little over 2K on it as of now.
Terrible mileage would only be expected if you don't drive it for best economy.
Now, I don't drive much in bumper to bumper traffic or in much stop and go traffic and the lowest my fuel economy has been on a tank of gas was about 25 MPG.
You have to baby it to get the best economy out of it.

I'm only averaging 22 combined city and highway, about 50/50, which seems kind of low. I do have the 3.31 gears though. And I've only had it 3 weeks or so, I've heard they sometime need to break in a bit.
I reset the mpg tracker thing and then drove for 10 minutes on the highway at 65 without any crazy accelerations and it was only at 26.5

The current V6 is a technological wonder. I know many people on this board pick the V6 because they can't afford the GT. Not the case for me. I didn' t like the GT, especially how they artificially pipe the exhaust sound into the cabin. I actually narrowed my decision down to the BMW Z4 and the Mustang V6. I bought a fully loaded V6 and love the car. I also like owning a car that is on the cutting edge of technology.

I average 22mpg with 90% city driving in rush hour traffic. It's all down to how you drive.
I considered a GT, but didn't get one primarily because it doesn't fit well with the majority of driving I do. I don't race, and what I wanted was a car that could easily move through traffic in the 20-50 MPH range, and pass cars at will.
I also knew when I bought the car that there was a long list of changes I wanted to make to it, and I didn't want to pay a lot of extra money for features that I was going to strip out anyways. Why pay for a Shaker sound system when I had planned on pulling it all out and replacing it anyways? Why pay for sport suspension when I am going to replace it and lower the car?
The other reason why I got a V6 is because I'm more of a handling type person than a raw speed type person, and the lighter V6 can be made to handle better than the heavier 5.0s.

On my trip up to San Antonio. I filled up in Corpus Christi, took off around 530am so the roads were nice and empty. Made one quick stop at mcdonalds on mathis for some breakfast but i spent about half a tank getting up there. I wanted to enjoy the nice quiet drive so i set the cruise control to 60, put on some raggae and just cruised. The mpg meter read 39mpg avg, at one point it even hit right above 40!
On the way back i just punched the pedal and still got 35! Around the cities tho i get about 20-24 depending on how i drive. I love the fuel efficiency of this car and love even more how i can hang with most cars on the road once speeds start pickin up

My 12 with 3.31 gears has about 4800 miles on it so far and the last two tanks I have averaged over 24 MPG. The tank before last was actually 24.7. Of vouse I babyed it to get that. This tank I got 24.1. this is back a forth to work ~21 miles one way no interstate just surface roads and state highways, whit the cruise set on 60most of the time. I go for my frist oil change shortly. It is hard to believe that I have had this car for almost a year.

After reading some of your replies, I'm confident that I bought the right car I traded in my lifted truck solely for the fact that I got 12-14mpg with it... It was killing me lol.
I went with the 2013 V6, because they stuffed 305hp in it, but still claimed up to 31mpg. I LOVE this car already, but haven't quite seen the numbers ya'll are getting. Then again, there's only 230 miles on the odometer lol.

j, they do need to go through a break in period. I have the 3.7L in my F150 Crew Cab. The mpg's were terrible until the engine had approx. 3000 miles. After that it began to do much better. I'm sure your's will also.

That's some great numbers! I have about 4200 miles and so far my best is 25.2. I haven't been on a trip yet? I drive 70 miles round trip about half major hwy or interstate use cruise and drive no more than 70 on the commute. Maybe the mpg will start to get better. This is an awesome car blast to drive and I get people looking all the time. Lots of compliments.

Well, if all you guys claiming they do better with 3000 or more miles on them are correct then my next Dallas trip I might be looking at 40 mpg's...
I doubt it though, really should already be broken in at the 2000 miles on the car now.
I'm figuring I will be looking at 31-32 on my return trip home running up to the speed limit all the way.
Not much fun running slow with all the other drivers looking at me funny as they passed the bright yellow Mustang...
