Thumbs up Upgrading Sync 1 with Nav to Sync 3...feasible?

***Apologies-- I just submitted this to the "Interior and Audio" section under Mods***

Long time lurker here. I've got a 2012 Mustang V6 with tech package/Sync 1 with Nav screen. Although I don't hate the current Sync that I have, it's getting dated and I really want native Android Auto option. I've seen the recent offerings from Dynavin/NavOS but what I really want is something that looks like stock. After scouring through many different threads across forums for various Fords, I'm still trying to understand whether it's possible. I've seen posts out there saying that it's not possible to do with the Sync1 with Nav, but I'm not sure I believe it.

I know people have discussed this throughout the years, but after days of scouring, I am not convinced there is a clear answer. Rationale being that there are various harnesses out there for the 4" Sync 1 MyFord to Sync 2/3. I believe the 4" Sync uses a similar APIM to the 2012 Sync with Nav, so I don't see a clear reason why it wouldn't be possible to upgrade mine. My theory is that noone's attempted it because there aren't enough of us with this particular Sync version that actually want to try it. I've reached out to some of the people offering harnesses, and am waiting to hear back.

I started looking at wiring diagrams for my 2012, and have mapped out the pins involved. Some basic questions/observations at this stage:
-At best, it seems like I might be able to re-use my current ACM, but not sure?
-Radio bezel also seems like a potential obstacle
-Otherwise, it seems like it is a matter of obtaining a Sync 3 screen + APIM, the correct harness (or fabricating my own harness), and reprogramming with ForScan.

I'm really early into this, but just wondering whether anyone has ventured into a Sync 3 upgrade with my particular 2012 Nav... I don't want to give up, as I otherwise love the car and she will be with me for awhile. If I am wasting my time and this is impossible, I'd love to understand exactly why. This'll probably be a project I'll slowly dabble at... hopefully there will be a point where it will reach feasibility. Regardless, I'll post updates... unless you guys think it's impossible! Thanks in advance!

Like I said in the other post, the going 2 to 3 is being done but some of the 09-12 still had the sync 1 and I thought I read of some converting.
I will stay with Sync1 in the Mustang and MFT with Sync 2 in the truck.

any updates pon this as it seems like it should be doable and has been done in various other ford cars and trucks.

Im sure you could get it to start up, but some features may be in op like speed detection, because of different signals between model years

ive been looking into it and it should be possible since Fusion, focus and f150 guys have all upgraded their older 2010 up sync vehicles to sync 3. There is even this idata link interface which allows aftermarket units to operate the factory stuff as intended, wonder if possible to use it for the upgrade.
