Turbo or Supercharger for Daily Driver 5.0
Turbo or Supercharger for Daily Driver 5.0
I'm wanting more power, 412hp just isn't cutting it anymore, especially with more and more non-muscle cars coming with 300-350hp. My car is a 2012 5.0 Auto with 25k miles.
Since an 80-mile daily commute is the standing order, I need something reliable that can tolerate the Texas heat, summer mornings start off at 80F and stay around 95-100F for 12-hours before dropping off a measly -20F.
Additionally, I won't the best balance of low-end torque plus top-end power. By that I mean I want good passing power without having to bury the throttle for a few seconds, but I also don't want the power to fall-flat at the top-end at the drag strip.
One last thing, and this is a must, I don't want to hear supercharger whine at all, I want and need this to be a sleeper type of install.
If you make a recommendation, please don't just say supercharger or turbo, list brand and model for a good discussion.

May I suggest the Roush supercharger? It is quiet and you can daily drive no problem. PLUS,...you get some great power from it. Do a youtube/google search for Roush chargers. There are other superchargers as well like Whipple and Kenne Bell.
GOOD LUCK!
GOOD LUCK!
Vortech's VQ (very quiet) series is really quiet, except on cold start you can hear it a bit. I ran a Vortech S-trim VQ on my '07 GT Automatic that I built as a sleeper (no spoiler, V6 grille and emblems, no GT emblems, etc.). Great driveability and it was my daily driver year 'round - even in the snow. Dropped my 0-100 mph time by 4 full seconds when coupled with steeper gearing (4.10's). Vortech makes the updated Si-trim for the 5.0L V8's and I highly recommend them. With their super conservative tune (smog legal), it takes you from 412 hp stock to 605 hp with plenty of room to dial it up for way more power.
Here in the Dallas, Texas area, weather is rarely below 50F (10C), with rain less than 10% of the time.
As for miles per day, I average 2000-miles per month.

If your 412 HP 5.0 doesn't already have good passing power, you clearly must have a faulty mustang and need to go back to the dealership to have it fixed. Since you don't want to hear a whine in a supercharger and you don't want lag so turbo is out. My recommendation would be NOS.
It would not make much sense to install a supercharger or turbo that only makes gains above 4000rpm, which is why I say a balanced approach would be preferred.
I don't mind a little turbo lag, it certainly won't be Subaru WRX type turbo lag since the 5.0 already makes good power, heck I wouldn't mind a little whine from the blower, but I don't want something so loud that passengers, or people in cars next to me immediately know they hear a supercharger.
Its got plenty of passing power, I was just summarizing the goal of what I would want more from in a daily driver that see's only occasional 'official' track time.

Question, is your perspective of a daily driver staying N/A for some reason, like weather, climate, or road conditions where you are in Canada, or some other reason?

But that's what NOS does.
Have you installed a CAI and had it tuned, either dyno or canned? Either way the process really wakes the car up and could possibly be all you need. Not to mention it would save you a ton of cash.
one other thing, OP i no you want a "sleeper" but that wine is intoxicating, me i love the whine i think it sounds wicked but to each his own

I am with you though,......I do like the whine as well.
I have a 2003 4.2l v6 f150 that i turbocharged and lag is definitely not an issue.
It's nitrous unless you buy Holley's Nitrous Oxide System. NOS is not a generic term for nitrous unless you're a ricer. Anyway, nitrous isn't really practical for the street or for what the OP wants. The nitrous bottle has to be open and the bottle has to be at the correct temperature, not to mention the need for a nitrous specific tune which retards the timing which will hurt your performance when the nitrous isn't being used. You could add switches for the bottle heater and even a bottle opener but it won't be an instant, on demand solution.
