Tune Question For SCT Users

Tune Question For SCT Users
I'm considering purchasing a tune for my 2010 4.0 (auto). I've looked at the FRPP pro-cal tune and I liked it because I don't really want to add a CAI. The FRPP package is just a tune and a K&N replacement filter. What I don't like about it is that I would have to run 93 octane all the time. I would rather just be able to stick with running 87 octane. That led me to take a look at the SCT tunes that have a performance 87 tune. I'm not looking to make it scary fast, just a little better and maybe punch the torque up into the 250 or so range. So the question is, have any of you guys loaded the 87 performance tune on your 4.0 and how did that work out for you?

No worries about making the 4.0 "scary fast" with just a tune, hard to make it scary fast at all! ![Big Grin](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I have a 87 octane tune on my 3.9 in my '04 and while it isn't a 4.0 the results will be much the same, better drivability and snappier off the line feel.
Also, most any place you get the tuner from, if it is a pre-loaded unit, it will have 3 tunes on it so you can choose between the 87 tune and 2 other higher octane tunes.

Well, you said "scary fast", x-charger or whatever, still not going to be scary fast unless your scare threshold is really low.
The 87 tune will do what you are looking for.

Everyone's definition of fast is different. The way I look at it is pretty simple. The average of all cars on the road have a 0 to 60 time of right at 9 seconds and the Mustang even in stock form is much quicker than that which means it's easily faster that most cars around it in traffic. When I said scary fast I was just being sarcastic. To me scary fast is a flight in a fighter jet at 20 feet off the deck. Nothing on wheels constitutes scary fast unless we start talking some cigar shaped mutation on the sands at white sands. An X-Charged 4.0 is a fast car. Heck I've seen guys getting over 500 hp out of that 3.8 that you're using. You can make anything fast with enough money. Anyway, good to hear the 87 performance tune fits the bill. I guess now my only question is will I have to switch to a custom tune when I add dual exhaust or will the canned tune be alright with that. Whats the word on that Ltngdrvr.

I doubt the dual exhaust will upset the balance enough to be a problem.
Now, if you go with a CAI then I would definitely want an adjustment to the tune.
I am going to avoid the pissing contest here about the 4.0 x-charger and whatever. If you read my sig you will see I have experience with the same size supercharger as the x-charger on my V6.

Ok, now I've seen posts discussing the fact that a tune will become less potent over time because the engine adjusts and the tune will have to be reloaded periodically. Does anyone know if this is accurate? I could see how it could happen by way of the O2 sensor.
