Tried the plastic baggy trick...

When I FINALLY changed my oil a little while ago.

If anyone is left that doubts the effectiveness of this trick, don't, it does work.

Used a gallon size ziplock baggy and slid it up until it was up over the top of the filter mount and then twisted the filter through the bag. You also should start to loosen the filter before putting the baggy over it so it's not so hard to twist through the baggy.

Anyway, only had a couple of drips from the filter mount after pulling the old filter out. And I'm sure I could have avoided those if I had thought to have a towel in my hand when I pulled the old filter out.

And I think the only reason the oil change reminder came on was due to time, been a year and 4750 miles since the last change, but the old oil didn't look that dirty.

So, a fresh load of 5w20 mobil1 and a new motorcraft filter, good to go for another year!

I change my oil in my cars every 6 months, no matter the mileage (which is between 10-12k a year). Easier to remember.

I tried it with a Walmart bag and it didn't work very well at all. I'm going to try the zip lock bag the next time.

No, walmart bag sucks for this job.

Plus, most of those bags I've seen have holes in the bottom.

Well, at the one year anniversary, I had only about 4600 miles on it.

So, don't expect that yearly mileage to go up much in the future.

Keep getting the 15K service reminder from the dealer, just laugh and throw them away, along with the useless 5 quart oil change coupon. Why do they send the owner of a car that takes 8 quarts for a change a coupon for a 5 quart oil change?

****, you must have some crap pig mats. I use one and it's not even close to being used up. I use it to wipe my hands afterwards. Weird.
