Trailers and cargo carriers
Trailers and cargo carriers
Hi There,
I just purchase a 2014 GT convertible. I had planned to install a tow hitch and buy a cargo carrier for my Costco runs and vacation tours but I was told today that the car is not capable of handling much load on a cargo carrier. Does anyone know of a creative solution to this problem? My other idea was to purchase a small enclosed cargo trailer but I cannot find anything that does not cost an arm and a leg, does anyone know of a reasonably priced product (around $1000.00)
Thx for your help
Todd

I pack all my stuff into the car when I go on vacation and I drive my 4 Runner to the store when I am getting big stuff. Really big stuff I take my 6.5X10 trailer behind the 4 Runner.
I do have a Coupe so the back seat does go down but the past 2 years I was able to get everything in the trunk.

A small trailer is probably going to work best for you, but one that is water tight may be a challenge for less than $1,000. Keep an eye on Craigslist for a good used one.
There are small trailers you can assemble yourself which don't cost too much like this one: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...2543_200612543
You could then either build a box for it, or mount a fiberglass clamshell cargo container on it.

My Mustang will hold more than my wife's MKC for Costco runs and when we go to our cabin in Tennessee the Mustang will haul all we need with no problems. Lay down the back seats and load it up.

His is a convertible. Back seats won't lay down in a convertible, will they?
I had a Starlight trailer (http://neoshotrailers.com/) that starts just under $1000 for my Gold Wing. They're small and light but have more than enough space to pack for two people on a 2-week trip (rain gear and various other stuff had filled up the saddlebags).
Here you go - hope it works this time: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too..._content=37560
