Touch up paint, which one is better?!
Hi there:
Yesterday my wife and I wanted to go out for the dinner when my wife noticed a 3-4 inches scratch on my passenger door
It is not too deep to the metal but it is through the paint. I have never used any touch up paint product before. Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks

I am not sure from your description whether or not the scratch is down to bare metal or simply into the clear coat. If the former paint will be needed to seal the metal. If the latter you MAY be able to get by with polishing compound. Polishing compound is less abrasive than rubbing compound and will take a bit more effort, but it is very unlikely that you will make things worse either. IF you have any previous experience with body work you can VERY LIGHTLY [ barely touch it ] wet sand the scratch with 2000 paper before using the compound. Polishing compound can't fill or heal the scratch, but it can smooth the sharp edges of it and make it nearly invisible. Try to use a small hard rubber pad rather than your finger or thumb, this will minimize the possibility of creating a low spot. One of the first things I bought for my '14 GT was a bottle of touch up paint from the dealer. Other brands may work just as well. No matter how hard you try you will get the occasional rock nick and careful use of the paint can minimize the effect. You can find the paint code for you car on the driver's side door jam.
