Tire Rotation ?

When I had my Lexus, every time I got my oil changed, they rotated the tires. My Ford dealer isn't doing this. My question is: What's the recommended schedule for tire rotation? Do you know what a dealer would charge to do this?

I get mine balanced and rotated every 3K miles at Discount Tire. I bought a certificate for repair or replacement, so it's free, but I don't think they charge very much if you just go in.

Mine get rotated around 5000 miles for free. What is your oil change schedule?

I rotated mine at 8000, and I ended up doing it myself because I was showing my kids how to change a tire and we just did rotated them. I dont recall my dealers price, but it was very reasonable, maybe $20. I'll just have them done when I have them change my oil every 5-6000 miles.

Thanks for the input. My tires are at 11K miles now and never been rotated. I'm thinking I should probably do that pretty soon.

There's a recommended rotation schedule in your OWNERS MANUAL.

I would recommend your tires be rotated at the time you get your oil changed. I don't want to make this a change oil thread so whenever one does there oil change intervals would be great to rotate the tires. I have my tires rotated every 7500 miles. One cant rotate tires too much, not like its bad for the tires. Lol

I have the tires rotated about every 4000 to 5000 miles, when I get the oil changed.

I have a tread depth gauge and rotate the tires whenever the rear tread depth drops about 1/32" less than the front. For some reason the rears wear faster than the fronts.

I would think it be the opposite. I would think the front tires would wear more than rear because the weight is up front with the engine.

hmm, noob here, I have never rotated tires.

How do you rotate them? Left front to Right back? or just change left and right and leave the front wheels at the front and back wheels at the back?

Left front to left back?

Typically radial tires are rotated front to back, back to front on the same side. And, that is only if all the tires are the same size.

OP, I'd rotate tires on your car every 5k, as these cars tend to wear unevenly, especially the stock Pirellis. If you've gone 11k, they may be very uneven already.

There are lots of techniques, and all will work so long as you rotate the positions sooner than later.

I've found that rotating positions about every 3000-3500 miles prevents any abnormal wear or over-wear by remaining in a single position, but lots of this depends on how your driving style and habits.

I bought 2-new P-Zero's for my car, put them on the rear, and put the best two of the 4-old tires on the front. The rears will stay on the rear until they equal the depth of the front. For rotation, I just swap the front left/right, then swap the rear left/right, keeping the wear more equal across each axle.

Tire wear, many people think that as long as they aren't burning rubber, that there shouldn't be accelerated wear on the tires from the drive axle. The simple act of acceleration causing tire wear, and the act of braking causes tire wear.

It all depends on the tires used, directional, non-directional, etc. Use the owners manual, it will tell for the vehicle and tire type supplied with the vehicle. General rule on non-directional tires, rear wheel drive is rears move to front same side, fronts cross to rear opposite.

You're a good candidate for reading the owners manual. It explains when to do it, and the pattern in which tire goes where when doing the rotation.

I got 47K on the set of pirellis, and rotated them myself in the garage. It was a perfect time to clean and wax the insides of the rims, and inspect the brake pads while doing the rotation.
