Throttle by wire ? No Thanks !

This is the second car I've owned with drive by wire and a manual transmission. The first one was annoying enough, waiting for the RPM's to drop down between gear changes. Am I the only one that finds the disconnect and drive-line lash irritating in the Stang at low engine speeds and in town driving ? Maybe this is a non-issue with an automatic, but I would think that a little tweaking in the programming by Ford would have cured this issue with the manual.........or maybe it's just me.

That is not caused by drive by wire. That is programmed into the ECU to meet EPA so raw fuel isn't dumped into the air from a sudden close of the throttle.

Geez - even my 80's carb engines - with cable linkage throttles - have done this. Where have you been?

Get an aftermarket tune and it will alleviate some of that as well as reduce any throttle lag some say they experience.

Three years... 37,000 miles... have never noticed any issue with drive-line lash or "disconnect" (whatever that is). Possibly the V6 is somewhat different but I haven't heard anyone else complaining of this on a GT. Can you provide more detail about the problem?

Tuning improves this. Like others said, it's part of the OEM tune

I'm guessing this is the first vehicle he's had with Trac-Lok differential. The clutch packs are not silent. Or he hasn't figured out his clutch disengagement yet.

LOL I'm well aware of the EPA and lean mixtures since th 80s. And you may be right, I could be spending to much time playing with motorcycles and street rods. However, great advice from all of you, regarding the tune. Thanks, why didn't I think of that ?

A tune really helps with the throttle. Before I would call the throttle input a mere suggestion as far as the PCM is concerned, but after the tune there's almost no lag, and the throttle input and actual throttle position is much more close.

Me too. I wouldn't have any clue the car has electronic throttle based on how it drives. Always though the throttle worked wonderfully.

its a pretty known issue with the 3.7's. not really a issue unless its a manual. you can change it in the tune if you want. sct calls it 'dashpot' in their software which cars have had dashpot's for a long time now except they use to be a physical part instead of in the tune.

coasting down a offramp, lift off the gas leaving clutch engaged, wait for engine braking... in my 06 its almost six seconds before the throttle closes fully and starts braking, with that beautiful burbling sound a V8 makes at high vacuum...

Ive just gotten used to it on my 06, but its pretty noticeable. only vehicle Ive ever driven that was worse was a buddies 90's GM V6 pickup- it had a dashpot on the throttle that really made rpm hang- the engine would usually rev up when the clutch was pushed...at least Ford wont do that

pretty sure its just to minimize high vacuum/oil consumption/emissions, so were kinda stuck with it- whats nice though is the revlimiter, knock sensors, and traction control can reduce throttle faster than any foot to protect things...

It's been improved since then. Mine doesn't take anything like 6 seconds.

Mine is a 3.7 with manual and I've never noticed a problem with the throttle. What exactly are the symptoms I should be looking for? Or am I better off not looking since it hasn't bothered me so far?

well if you want to notice it just rev it up to 6k or so and watch how long it takes to drop the revs. its pretty easy to get use to while driving, but when i do a burnout at the track and let off the gas and clutch while the revs are still up in the 5k or so range it sounds like im holding my foot on the gas after i let off the clutch.
