So I'm attempting to do data logging through my sct sf3 through my laptop and when i launch the program it says something about a database and basically the program just crashes.

Anyone have any experience with livelink 2 at all?

One thing I didn't mention in the PM, I assume you downloaded the updater for the SCT.

Pardon the question, as I might be doing this in the near future for remote tuning.

I have an SCT that came with my Maggie kit. How can I use it to "datalog"? I've never done that before.

I've only done it with an X4, so the process might be a bit different, but I believe it's the same.

For me, I installed LiveLink on my laptop, which is the program that does the datalogging. The unit itself should be able to do some, but it's easier on the laptop IMO, and it appears that you can track much more info with it.

Once that is installed you connect the X3 to your car and the laptop. You have to set up Livelink with all the parameters it will log, and there is a huge list to choose from. I'll look into how I set it up, not all the parameters will be available with every car. Once everything is set up, you run the log and drive around however you want to get the log. Typically it's 1-2 WOT runs, but I also did a few just tooling around town for the hell of it. When you want it to stop logging just hit stop.

It's not that hard, but it can be a PITA to start and stop the software while you're driving. SCT suggests having a passenger do all that, I'm lucky enough to have enough empty road by me where I can pull off and do it safely.

Oh, and I guess it would be prudent to add that after you stop the log, it saves it as an excel file. The columns are the various parameters (A/F, knock sensors, rpm, etc.) and the rows are time.

And here are the parameters I used (taken from another Mustang site). If you sending the log to a tuner it might be best to ask them what parameters they want.

Short term fuel trim bank 1&2

Long term fuel trim bank 1&2

Lambse bank 1&2

Measured AFR bank 1&2

MAF Frequency

MAF flow rate #/min

Knock sensor

Spark Advance V2

Throttle angle actual

Throttle angle desired

RPM

As Joeywhat said it's important that you connect everything to the car prior to setting up you log parameters and saving your log file for future use. In theory you can setup your parameters on the notebook running the LiveLink software without being attached to the car but some of the parameters won't be available. Below is what I setup my log file to monitor.

RPM

Short term fuel trim bank 1 and 2

Long term fuel trim bank 1 and 2

Measured AFR bank 1 and 2

Load

MAF frequency

Battery voltage

Etc actual angle

Spark Advance

Knock sensor

torque source

Coolant temp deg F

Intake air temp F

Air control temp 2 F (supercharged only)

variable valve timing intake cam angle

variable valve timing exhaust cam angle
