Throttle response

OK, so when nearly coming to a stop and then getting back on the gas sometimes its like the first 10% of the throttle just isn't there. I get nothing and then the rpms are at about 2 grand or so. From a dead stop this lag isn't there. Is this a known issue with these cars? It just feels like sometimes the is a dead spot in the top of the throttle.
She is a 2011 5.0 auto with around 50,000 on the odometer and all stock except for a drop in filter and axle backs. Would a tune get rid of this dead spot or is a trip to the dealer in order? Thanks in advance for your answers!

Tune would help with throttle response.
also give this a shot

1. Turn on car without starting the engine
2. Wait till most the dash lights go out (seems like two remain on)
3. Step on the gas pedal in one smooth and steady motion
4. Once gas pedal hits the bottom, let go
5. Turn off car and wait 4-5 seconds
6. Turn engine on
7. Drive

Repeat 1-6 if it doesn't work the first time.

They also say you need to do this everytime you change tunes.

It's the transmission trying to decide whether to shift up or down.

This ^^^. It's an automatic, the computer has to decide if it's a toaster, or a television, or fax machine.....once it finally realizes it controls a transmission it has to to decide what gear if feels like shifting to. A manual will fix all your problems.

I believe some of it is also the stock tune. Re: my thread about my tune, I never knew the stock setup was that "laggy". But 2k rpm seems a bit much. I don't think that's solely the stock tune. What the others have said, if coming to a near stop then going again, it's the tranny deciding which gear to hunt.

Could it be carbon build up on throttle plate?

Hi Dawgsfan,

You should speak with the service manager at your Ford Dealer. He is in the best position to ensure a proper diagnosis, and will be able to provide available options and/or coverage for any work needed. Also remember, most repairs done at a Ford Dealer come with a 24 months/unlimited miles warranty.

You can schedule an appointment online here.

I'm suspicious of it being throttle or transmission learning. IIRC, unplugging the battery for 30 seconds or so will cause the learning to reset. See if this fixes the lag. If it does, a tune may end up being a good solution that's more permanent.

The throttle position sensor resets itself to a preset default every time you turn the car off so the old six step process to improve your throttle response is not going to do anything. It's mainly an old internet myth.

As already stated you could consider a tune, or have your dealership check it out and when was the last time you cleaned your mass air sensor?

If you want to know if it's trans lag, keep it in 1st and try your slow roll take off to see if it goes away.

But I, too, believe some of the delay is in the tune and that, along with any possible trans shifting issues, could be improved with an aftermarket tune.
