Thoughts about running 28" tires instead of 27"
My thought is this...
Stock GT uses a 27" tire all around. Max wheel diameter is 19"
Stock Boss uses a 27" tire all around. Max wheel diameter is 19"
Stock GT500 in prior years had a 27" tire all around. Max wheel diameter had been 19"
Now the GT500 runs a 27" tire up front and a 28" tire out back.
Most aftermarket staggered recommendations are typically a 27" front and a 28" rear tire.
Since I'm going up to 20" wheels, why not err on the side of "protecting my wheels" and bump up to a 28" tire all around? I'm tuned so it would be easy to recalibrate.
It would fill the wheel arches better, and allow me to keep a little extra sidewall too.

The Mustang V6 runs a 27.7 inch tire and they do fill the arch up better then the 27.2 that came stock on mine. I actually will be going to a 27.8 inch tire when the stock Pirellis wear out so I don't see a problem with it.

my thought is you're gearing up the car and won't be quite as quick
you're also likely adding rotating mass and definately moving it all further out on the radius...will require still more energy to spin up and hurt acceleration

I went to 29" tall tires (255/50/19) for the street and run a 28" drag radial out back at the drag strip. I, too, wanted to fill up the wheel wells a bit more without lowering the car, plus a bit softer ride...

I would run a 28" tall tire in the back if I had a 11+ with a MT82. That will make your 4th gear more of a traditional 5 or 6 speed Tremec transmission (I know the MT82 isn't a Tremec). I've always liked it when 5th and 6th gear was an overdrive. Plus as you said, it fills up the wheel well better!

The tall 29" tires work well with the 4.56 gears, though.
I think my next set of tires will be around 28" tall for the rear, yet staggered (245/45/19 front and 275/45/19 rear).
