Last May 2011 I wanted to trade in my 2011 GT 'vert Premium on a 2011 or 2012 GT coupe (had 2 go from 6MT to 6AT for medical reasons).

Dang DumbPhone, premature post. Anyway, to continue: my '11 GT convertible had 8,600 garage-kept pampered miles. $27k was the most two dealers would give me for it in trade at that time (keep in mind my 'vert was $41,075 MSRP with options). CarMax would only offer me $24K to buy it outright from me. So I went back to the dealer I bought my '11 from and worked a trade in deal for $30k for it to order my '12 coupe, and they said it was only b/c I was a returning customer that they went that high.

I ended up selling my '11 GT vert for $31,500 as a private party sale while my '12 was being built.

Considering it's almost a year later and you have 22k miles versus my 8,600 miles and a coupe vice the vert I'd say not to set your sights over $22k (-ish) for your trade-in value. I think $24K, maybe up to $26K might be do-able for a private party sale.

I second that. I waited years to see redesigns to finally buy my 2013. mustang GT. I will trade up and lose a lot of money to get the 2015 when it is completely redesigned too. What a waste of money though. If you have a 2011 WAIT 2 more years. There really is not that much change to lose so much money on a trade in when only 2 more years for the anniversary model. You will certainly want to trade again. WAIT. The novelty will be over soon enough and you will regret not waiting for the '15.
Unless you have plenty of money sitting around to burn. Good luck in what ever you decide to do.

I have had my car appraised by two different dealers and had pricing worked up on a '13. I would do the Electronics Package, Track Pack, and Recaros over what my 2011 has now. Dealers lowballed me to a point where I'd break even, even though most other sources of appraisal info show me getting $24500-25500 for it. I'd suggest trying to sell it if you are set on getting something newer. If not, wait for the late build '14s if the info on the '15 model isn't to your liking. I don't foresee Ford making drastic changes for the upcoming model year. Bottom line, you don't want to roll any negative equity into another vehicle, and it sounds like you wouldn't be.

I just traded my 2011 base gt a6 with 12k and got 25k for it against msrp minus rebate and 750 private offer on a 2013 base gt a6 and financing for the same term I lowered my payments. If I like the 2015s then I can trade again and the 13 should be worth more than the 11. I do like the improved steering wheel and the hids are nice, but they are expensive because I have a defective one and the service writer said its an 800.00$ Item.

The '15 should be awesome, I suggest you wait for it to come along and by that time you'll owe less and your car should still hold a higher relative value so with the equity you'll be able to get more options or a smaller payment on the '15. That's probably what I will do in mid '14 when they come out.

I have been out for awhile, I am debating on getting a 2013 but what are the plans with 2015? Complete re design?

Man, there is some awful stories of devaluation here; I guess i did well w/ my trade in.

Last week I traded an '07 base GT m5 for a '13 in Houston and got $16,725 for it. Not bad considering I paid $21, 8xx for it five years and 34,000 years ago; nope, it wasn't rolled over into the price of the new one, as I got it for X plan pricing.

My original 'plan' when I bought the '10 V6 was to keep it until the anniversary model came out. Personally, I liked the tails and rear end (diaper) of the 10-12, but I know a lot folks (most maybe) hated that change... so it's a comfort to me that Ford tried to 'fix' it with the '13, because that may show that they're listening. But I'm not at all confident they won't find a way to wreck the next generation design. And I decided not to wait around and find out. I know I'll be happier with the '12 GT if that ends up being the last I like enough to pull the trigger on.

Personally, even with the issues you've had with your 2011, I'd hang on to it until the complete redesign in 2015. I think you're going to take a bath on selling yours now. Cosmetics aside, there's very little difference between the 2011s and the 2013s. I have a 2012 and while I'd like to have the Recaros and LED fog lights that the 2013 has, I'd never dream of getting rid of my 2012 for a 2014. (Of course it helps that I prefer the looks of the 2011/12 to the 2013/14.)

I don't know if its devaluation or dealers trying to make a quick buck by lowballing us. Bottom line, it's not worth it to trade up and take any negative equity for a very similar car.

Sell your current privately, If you get the $$ you want then get the newer car. If you can't get what you want for the current one then you should hold on to it. That simple. When selling my 2006 I had a number in mind of what i wanted to get for her. If i could not get the $$ I would just keep it. My friends even scoffed at me telling me no way I could get what I was looking for. Two days later she was sold for more than the bottom number I had in my mind. Look at the going price on Craigslist or Cars.com and put it up on those sites to see if you get the kind of bites you want.

I think its a bad idea overall because the cash burn will be significant. If you have the money and don't care about giving it away then go for it.

I just feel a bit turned off about this so I want to start fresh since next year or down the road a buyer might notice and question. So if I can stay at same payments, id do it. But i like my 11 over the 13. No question. I think it would be better in the long run
Well the '13 uses the same transmission and there are already '13 owners reporting notching shifting and noisy transmissions. Have you had your tick looked at by the dealer? It may be one of those addressed by a tsb.

I'm not sure why so many are concerned about some of the ticks that aren't anything more than noise. I've had many solid lifter high performance motors in the past. Now you want to talk about ticks.......
