Thinking of buying a new(er) Mustang, opinions?
Here's what I am considering: a low mileage or leftover 2011 or 2012 GT500 or a new 2013 Boss 302. Might even consider a '13 GT500 but I doubt I would be willing to pay the price and 550 hp is more than enough to stir my soul.
Here are my thoughts:
The Boss would be great but I might not be happy using it as a second car since it seems to be geared more towards the hard core road race crowd. Not many creature comforts. That might not be a deal breaker though since whatever I buy will not be my daily driver. This does give me the option of getting the color I want, Grabber Blue with black stripes, instead of settling for something else.
A GT500 would probably suit me better but the prices for low mileage '11s still seem to be averaging in the mid to high 40k range. Not sure I would be willing to pay that kind of money for what will soon be a two model year old car especially when a new Boss can be had for similar money.
I already have too many cars that I don't drive as often as I would like but I can sell one or more of those to make room for something newer. I don't plan to do anything until Spring so hopefully the used market will be a little different by then and we will know the pricing on the '13s.

As always, the longer you wait the more you'll know, but you won't enjoy the ride until you actually get into a car. Still, I agree with waiting until the 2013 pricing (particularly for the GT500) is known, as well as what additional gee-gaws might be made available on the Boss. A Grabber Blue 2013 Boss with black stripes would be a sweet choice. Then again so would 650 horsepower. Then again, the 1970 Boss 302 in school bus yellow is iconic to me so I also have give a thumbs-up to that comment above. ("BRILLIANT!")
Another consideration is that for the past 2 years or so, Ford has allowed X-Plan pricing for the GT500 (it's still ultimately up to the individual dealer, but at least there's no corporate exclusion of the GT500 from X-plan). At the same time, the Boss was excluded from x-plan, which means the real price of each is actually closer than the MSRP would indicate ('12 Boss base MSRP $41K, most dealers not budging from this, 2012 GT500 x-plan base pricing in the 43k-44k range). It'll be interesting to see what option packaging is available for 2013 and how X-Plan pricing will be applied.

I'm a dealer near Seattle. We have a used 2012 GT500 SVTPP Coupe with just 27 miles on it (customer bought it, drove home, and sold it back to us 3 weeks later having never driven it other than home & back!). Black with Red Stripes & Recaros. MSRP when new was just short of $56K. We have it on sale for $50,950.
We also have a pair of new 2011 GT Premium Coupes. Original MSRP was $37K+. Each is on sale for $31,950.
We're a one-price store so we don't negotiate - just fair prices upfront. Click on the links below if you'd like to see more info on each....

If you can spring it, 2013 GT500.
Put it this way... I LOVE my 5.0, right? But I'd have to dump her for a 2013 GT500 ANYday. LOL. Sssssssh don't tell Marilyn that... she might get mad.

Yes, we just received a new 2012 Kona Blue Boss 302. #3023 and available for less than MSRP at just $42,950. Click here for more info.
I originally ordered it for a prior customer of mine who decided to wait for a school bus yellow '13 Boss 302 instead of buying the '12. He has a wickedly cool Mustang to tide him over until the '13 arrives (supercharged '08 Bullitt).

So is that an 'official' statement, or a well-grounded professional prognostication?

Even not being 'in the business' I have to agree with this. With the upgrades to the new and improved 2013 GT500, there's absolutely no reason at all to think that Ford needs to provide X-plan pricing. While the US economy was in the toilet these past few years, it was a good business decision to offer X-plan pricing so that dealers could move GT500 inventory. I can't envision any scenario where they offer it, only to have dealers refuse potential buyers because the market surely exists (crystal ball ? check) for MSRP sales, either slightly below, at, or above.

Anyone know where there might be a leftover 2011 GT500 in Grabber Blue with the SVT PP?
