Summer tires off the line benefit?

I was just curious if anybody here initially had all season tires and switched over to summer and noticed a significant difference in off the line snap. The first 5.0 I drove was a Brembo car with 3.73s. It really seemed to jump off the line and shove me in the seat without a lot of wheel spin. My 2012 3.73 equipped GT with all season 19" tires seems to have a little softer launch than the Brembo car with summer tires. Don't get me wrongs. It still hauls much ****. It's just missing a little snap off the line due to wheel spin.

Would switching to summer tires be worth it just for acceleration? Or do you guys think the suspension differences in the Brembo car had more to do with it.

If I went with summer tires, I'm also curious if the 255/40 19 would fit the 19" non-Brembo rims. There are a lot more tires options in that size over the 245/45 19s on it now.

you can do 275s on the stock 19 inch wheel with no problem. The sticky summer tire would help wheel spin and help you hook better.

I've had a 2011 and 2012 that came with A/S tires, and switched both over to wider summer tires. These cars are fun regardless of the tire on them, but the experience is much more rewarding on summer tires.

As for acceleration off the line, it's definitely a traction thing. Even though you may not think you're spinning the A/S tires when accelerating hard, they are slipping/spinning a little, taking away that initial snap you experienced on the Brembo car.

Summer rubber will provide all around better traction, even in the rain at non-highway speeds, but dip below 40-50F, and the summer tire traction will wane. Additionally, summer tires will wear out quicker, how much quicker depends on which summer tires you get.

275's will fit fine on the Brembo 9" wide wheels , but I haven't seen any 275's approved by the manufacturers that will be safe on an 8.5" wheel. The OP has the stock 245/45/19 All Season tires, which is an 8.5" wheel.

The 8.5' wheel will not work with a 275 tire. My brembo car with the
19x9' wheel holds a 275 safely but a 19x8.5' will can only take a 255 tire safely. The op can put the stock tire from a brembo car and be ok (255/40/19). My stock p zero summer only tires lasted 13k miles on my car. Just put on hankook evo v12 2wks ago (255/40 up front and 275/40 out back) and love them. Esp since they were $500 cheaper for the set than the p zeros. And they should last a lil longer too.

The 255 40 19 looks like the way to go, then. There just aren't as many options in the stock 245 45 19.

What would you guys recommend? The Pirellis are stupid expensive. I'd really rather not spend that kind of money. I can get a good deal on Goodyears, but the reviews on the F1 supercars don't seem too great.

How noisy are those Hankooks? I know summer tires will be noisier than the A/S ones, but I don't want to make the car punishing to drive on the road either.

I would like to get a little more than 13k out of them, but I'll probably run the summer tires from like May to the end of October, so I should be able to get at least a couple years out of them even if they only last 18-20k or so.

BFG has them in the Sport Comp 2 (which is replacing the KDW) and they are over 100 bucks cheaper per tire over at Tirerack (which is offering a 50 dollar rebate as well on 4).

I've run the KDW with good results (was also impressed with over 24k in life despite the staggered fitment) in the dry and wet so the Sport Comp 2 should be a good tire.

Noise might be an issue? Lately it seems that Michelin (who owns BF Goodrich) and BF Goodrich have been missing the mark here compared to other brands, but thats about the only area they seem to be deffcient in.
