Street Racing Etiquette
I'm not talking about police chase speeds here, simply common courtesy. Back in my day (I'm not that old) if you wanted to prove something it was from a light or slow roll (as compared to the speed limit) on a deserted interstate up to more or less the speed limit. If you wanted to run faster you followed the guy and challenged them on the quarter mile strip / track. There was always a tell if the other guy wanted to play. A look from the stop light. Short brusts of speed and some signal be it a horn honk or the light turning after mutual glares.
Anyway, I met a Chally SRT8 at a light and tried to get his attention with looks and revs. We both moderately accelerate to 40, I figure he doesn't want to run and shift to third. Dude floors it, I realize and follow suit (this is the second time I've forgotten to downshift, too many years spent driving a truck ). Its also the second time a WOT run has just started without warning. Dunno, maybe I feel like I was sucker punched. I mean I kept pace given the reaction time lag and the 5.0 held its own and then some given needing a serious driver mod but seriously isn't there some protocol anymore?
Tips, hints suggestions anyone (aside fom downshift!)? Am I that far out of the loop?

Yes you were played, and I don't believe that there's any form of etiquette when it comes to street racing. And yes, the powers that be may remove this thread...

It's been coming down to the ricer fly by around here, nobody wants to race but they want to blow by you at 100mph and then claimed they beat you.
I have heard of people coming online and bragging about "blowing past a vette" like it was a race lol

I believe the etiquette is not to stare someone down and rev your motor at them. I'd laugh if someone did that to me. Sounds to me like the other guy thought street racing was pretty stupid, but then decided he'd take a quick opportunity to punk you and have some fun at your expense.
