Am I the only one that has pretty much all of my steering wheel control buttons flaking? The black "paint" is leaving at an alarming rate. It looks a little like excrement. With only 14k miles on the car this seems like premature wear.
Is anyone else experiencing this and would I be a dork to try and make this a warranty issue? I know it's not a big deal, but I see it every time I get in the car especially at night with the lights on.

I'm disappointed to hear about this issue. Definitely the wrong place to cheap out. But even BMW cheaped out with their newer cars in the exact same way, using clear plastic pieces that were painted instead of molding-in the color. Lots of 2006-2008 BMWs have this problem with their steering wheel buttons and door handles.
I hope the 2012 cars won't suffer from this, but I haven't read anything about Ford upgrading the buttons...

I don't know where you are getting this from...I had a 08 328i with no issues of the buttons peeling away and currently have a 2011 M3 also with audio controls and no peeling away. BMW does not use clear buttons painted, they are molded black..I'd like to see pics where you got this from. As I have had no issues of this at all. They do get a little shiny from lots of use but they haven't peeled. This also includes my wifes 05 X3 which we had for almost 5 years with no peeling.

If you actually read the threads, you'll see these are called "common" problems!

I can't remember but are our steering wheel buttons illuminated? If so, I can't see a way around painting a clear pastic button without getting into a much more expensive piece.

I've had mine 1 year 7 months and the buttons look like the day I got the car.
Do you guys use harsh cleaners on it? That may impact that flaking effects.
Example: anything solely labeled. "interior wipe"...

I definitely need you all (with issue) to contact your Ford dealership about this as soon as possible. If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to message me with your mileage, VIN, contact info, and dealer.
