Stage 2 of our 2012 Mustang GT Build: Project Blackout!

For Stage 2 of the AmericanMuscle.com 2012 Mustang GT Project Car build, we wanted Project Blackout to really start dominating as a street car. We decided it was time to kick it up a notch on this car a little and drop in more performance mods to get some horsepower crankin’! We’re getting this car ready for SERIOUS horsepower!

For some fun power, sound and even driveability, we installed…

Hurst Billet Plus 2 Short Throw Shifter
Pypes 409 Stainless Steel X-Pipe
Pypes Pype-Bomb Super System Catback Exhaust System
Accel Super Coil On Plug Kit (Coils / COP’s)

Once these were added, we strapped Project Blackout back down to our in-house Dynojet 224xLC to see what the horsepower and torque gains were. The dyno results? With peak gains of 10 horsepower and gains throughout the curve of 16 horsepower and 27 torque from 3000-6500 RPM, we were happy with the results!

To really help understand why we’re calling this project “Blackout”, we installed some stealth appearance mods and a set of AmericanMuscle Charcoal AMR Wheels and tires to help up hook up at the track! Check out what we added:

Smoked Mustang Side Marker Lights
Smoked Mustang Tail Light Tint
Smoked Mustang Third Brake Light Tint
Smoked Mustang Quarter Marker Light Tint
MMD Mustang Rear Decklid Panel
Staggered 19″ Charcoal AMR Wheels & Tires Kit

Now that we were looking more like “Blackout” should, we headed back to Cecil County Dragway and clicked off a 12.37 pass with our new mods! That’s about a 10th of a second gained with some better rubber on bigger wheels/tires (stock were 18″) and a little more horsepower from our friends at Pypes and Accel. Not too shabby, considering the [I]track conditions and weather weren’t any better than Stage 1!

Project Blackout is looking pretty good, but stay tuned for Stage 3 of our build! What do you think should be our next mods?

Comment below and tell us what you think!

Stage 3 I'm predicting Whipple or TVS. If I guessed right I should get half off on one.

AMchris that car is amazing! Really gives me blackout idea's for my black 05 GT. Cant wait for stage 3 and im thinking maybe the black Vortech kit so it has the blackout theme under hood too and makes great power. Glad there is a mustang parts supplier that actually puts their parts on to show/run for customers to see! Part of me wants to move to PA to try to work at AM haha.

I love the blackout car! I see a supercharger in her future! Perhaps Roush? I see the Roush sign in the background of many videos? I cant wait to see what is next! Keep up the good work.

Are those actually 20" wheels? The vid shows you using Nitto 555 tires, but the selection of 19" for the 555 is pretty sparse.
