Sound tube

Just courious....why would there be two different part numbers for the sound tube for the GT's; there's a part number for automatics, and a different one for standard transmission equipped GT's.

The way I see it, this sound tube connects from the air box tube to the drivers side firewall, to/from the same location, either way (automatic verses standard transmission). The transmissions don't alter that distance do they? I'd think the engine mounts are the same for both transmission types, therefore the length would be the same.

So why different part numbers? Did one have one foam insert, and the other two?

Not sure but I know most people on this forum have manuals and most of those said it did not make much difference when they removed theirs. On my auto however it was a big drop in annoying noise.

So the sound was better inside the cabin? I have Hushpower Axle Backs on my 13 GT Premium Auto, and was thinking of getting rid of the sound tube.

When I drive with the windows up the cabin sound is a bit annoying (nothing major), so I wanted to try canceling the sound tube and give that a try.

Pull the foam plugs out, it will be lots louder.

First, try the white foam at the front of the tube (tube that runs from the valve to the drivers side firewall). That makes very little difference. Then remove the black foam in the rear of this tube. It's much louder but does not sound natural with both pieces removed. I put the white foam back in and now I like the way it sounds. I recommend always leaving the white foam and only remove the black piece if you want the additional sound.

Here's a youtube video that shows how:

Yes as in quieter, with it on it sounds wrong to me like your flooring it when your just giving it a little gas. I disconnected and plugged it at the firewall but left the rest in place because I don't show off my engine bay. Then added GT500 mufflers and now the sound is just right. Not too loud to annoy you inside and nice rumble when you want it.

Ok this is exactly what I want, the natural sound coming from my axle backs
