So my engine tick went away...

My car was in the body shop for about 3 weeks, went and picked it up over the weekend and noticed when I got home that the tick seems to have gone away. I took it on a 250 mile trip last night from Houston to where I work and still dont hear it at all. As of this morning, 7100 miles on the car.

I'm not sure what would have caused this?? Perhaps the fact that the car basically sat without running much at all for 3 weeks had something to do with it. The only other thing I can think of is perhaps since the whole car was repainted maybe the guys had to disassemble and reassemble certain parts of the car that could have affected it?? perhaps sensors? Maybe the battery was disconnected for some reason? I have no idea...but the tick is def gone.

If it returns I will let you guys know but I would think after a 250 mile trip it would show up again if it was gonna show.

It was probably the brief joyride that the bodyshop guys went on. You would be surprised how much bouncing the engine off the rev limiter and powershifting helps the engine break in.

Did you notice that the ticking got worse when actually driving? Mine starts ticking when I start pulling forward. It doesn't tick if I just sit still and rev the engine to different rpms. Only when in gear. I believe this started after my first oil change, but not completely sure.

I would guess they would disconnect battery...and perhaps computer reboots and fixed tick?

Maybe sitting that long, something seated itself?

Did they put at least synthetic blend in? All the 5.0s come with Motorcraft synthetic blend from the factory.

FYI
It was done at the dealership and he double checked with the service dept. on the type and amount of oil.

Yup, whats in the car is synthetic and it is motorcraft.

As of today, the tick is still gone.

A wizard did it.

Actually maybe you should ask them about it, because they must have done something. It might be beneficial to a lot of people to know what.

I know it's been a year since this thread started but mine started ticking immediately after my 1st oil change... Any insight on this?

I hear a tick sometimes since about 1000 miles or so. I have 5k now and runs like a raped ape. No worries. Also, The ls1 motors developed a dieseling sound about 1k miles back when they came out and continued throughout their tenure . Those motors were beasts for their time. All the good motors seem to always have their own identity.

Now that I have 20k miles and a Bama Tune on my car, the ticking noise is gone.
