So... Ford... Where's our $50 gift card???

Some Ford Fiesta buyers get $50 for long wait

Ford’s launch of the compact Fiesta didn’t exactly go as smoothly as planned – with storms in Mexico affecting the car’s initial supply – but those that patiently waited for delivery are being rewarded with a $50 gift card.
Two tropical storms wreaked havoc on Ford’s Mexico supply lines last June, causing deliveries of the company’s Fiesta model to be delayed by up to two weeks. The U.S. spec Fiesta is built at Ford’s Cuautitlan, Mexico plant.
In order to smooth things over with Fiesta buyers, Ford is offering $50 MasterCard gift cards to anyone that had to wait longer than expected to take delivery of their new ride. Ford declined to reveal how many gift cards it plans to dole out, but previous reports suggested as many as 2,000 buyers were forced to wait for their Mexican-built Fiesta.
So far Ford has sold 4,377 units of the Fiesta, but it expects much strong numbers in the coming months. “We’ve got about 6,500 to 7,000 in transit to dealers. In a couple to three months, we ought to have the availability to support the kind of demand you see in a B-car category,” Ford sales analyst George Pipas said.

A $50 gift card? That's kind of insulting. I'd rather have free floormats and they'd probably come at less cost to Ford anyway.

4,377 isn't very many cars especially for a new model. I'm not sure what their projections were to justify production but I would think they'd be in the 40k+/annually range. I believe 2011 Mustangs are over 40k already or pretty darn close.

Like $50 is really going to help anything.

Right, it barely fills the tank 1 time.
If Ford were to mail me $50, I'd mail it back as that's insulting.
Ad another 0.

The rebate did go from $0 to $500 for most that had to wait and for those that are currently waiting it just went from $500 to $1,000. Certainly better than $0 rebate and a $50 gift card.

Agree in principle, Paul but that's not entirely accurate. The increase in rebates was not a result of people waiting. There were plenty of folks who got there cars in well under 6-8 weeks and still got the extra rebate. It applied to stock and special order cars. If I read the $50 rebate correctly, it applies to special orders only. Although I wonder how they prove that if a dealer orders it for stock.
