I had pretty much the same thing said to me......"it's no sweat off my back if u cancel your order, I'll just sell your mustang to the next guy that walks through the door."

I just got an overall feeling like they didn't need my business. As if us mustang buyers are a hassle to them. They were bending over backwards to get me to place the order, once I gave them the money it went down hill.

I think once a business loses sight of providing good customer service and a quality product, that's when things suffer. It's too bad because I believe ford is producing the quality product, however their face to the customers is through the dealerships (which are independents if I understand the business correctly) and it seems their service to us customers stops as soon as we put the deposit on our order.

Dealership is suburban ford in Michigan.

This is why I am glad there are some dealers out there that care. Brian as well as many others on this board are why I am not to judgemental on Ford dealerships.

I had a bad experience when I went to test drive a 5.0 There are good people out there you just gotta look. I am glad that you were able to get a Shelby enjoy.

My parents and I had collectively bought 5 prior cars at this dealer, and we still had to deal with this. The problem is as the OP stated, often you don't realize how big of a tool you're working with til it's too late -- they seem great to work with til they have your deposit, then it's down hill.

If Ford, GM, and Chrysler could somehow get their dealers to perform at Honda or even Hyundai levels, consistently (much less a Lexus or Land Rover level) they would actually earn quite a bit more business, especially with the quality of American cars across the board now. I know, probably harder than getting the UAW to give concessions, but now is the time for them to do so if they ever will.

A friend of mine won't ever return to a Jeep dealership due to their treatment of him, even though he loves the new GC -- he'd rather go to Land Rover, spend about the same, and be treated like he's buying a $45k + truck.

I went to go look at the Hyundai Gen coupe when it came out and I just told the guy I was just looking he said no problem, wanna drive it? I said sure went for a test drive and it was a fun car but a V6 doesn't sound like a V8.

We went back to the dealership and he talked for about 20min about my 07. They had just gotten a used SN95 GT in and I asked if I could start it up bc I love how those sounded he said sure brb with the keys.

There are people out there that care about the customer.

On January 22nd, I went to a local FORD dealership and put a $500 deposit on a 2012 loaded GT 5.0. I was told if I ordered before the end of the month, I would receive an additional $1,500 in rebates that FORD was currently offering on the mustang. On top of that I was told it would take 6-8 weeks for the new car to be delivered.

About a week after putting the deposit on the car, my dealer called and gave me the DORA #. At this point he said everything was moving quicker than expected and that my car would be quicker than the 6 weeks. At the time I still had my previous car and drastically cut the price I was asking for it in order to move it quickly to make room for the new 5.0 which was supposed to be in now in 5 weeks or less.

I sold my other car in mid to late February (about 2 weeks before the 5.0 should have arrived according to the dealer telling me I could expect the car quicker than we originally thought). I call the dealer after the sale of my other car to get an update and to discuss a time to come in and fill out financing paper work, etc. to make for a smooth and quick pickup the day the 5.0 arrives. He tells me at this time that we are looking at at least 12+ weeks from this point making for a mid May - early June arrival date.

Naturally, I was PISSED! On top of that, the rebates that I was promised and which were also the determining factor in my decision to place the order in January instead of waiting were no longer valid because they only applied to 2011 models, not 2012 models. The sales manager at the dealership who used the rebates as a lure to get me to put money down was now backing away from her promise with the excuse that at the time I ordered the car, she did not know that I ordered a 2012. She thought I was ordering a 2011. (Side note: what kind of sales manager of one of the largest dealerships in the country doesn't know that the 2012 mustangs have been the only mustang a person could order since sometime in November????).

As of Friday of last week (3/25) there was no news on a scheduled build date or week of build or anything on my order. I've seen some folks on here who placed orders in February get their scheduled build dates, but still nothing on my car.

So last week I checked online to see what other sorts of cars were out there for sale to see if maybe I could find a 2011 with the color/options I wanted. Preferably SG with red interior and navigation, 3.73, HID's, security package, review camera......pretty much loaded. Couldn't find anything...........

But, I did find this......
Dude you made the right choice and right decision , the car is stunning and you didn't give in to the dealer. It really is a crap shoot when you deal with these dealerships. I went to 4 different ford dealers within 15 miles before I ordered mine last year. I finally settled on a small dealership in CT 50 miles from me but the experience was worth it and I bring my car up to them whenever I have work done on it. It was fate for you to be a Shelby owner congrats!

My local dealer has 3 2012 GT's. A Silver vert, a Grabber Blue and a Lava Red one.
