Shelby to unveil 1000 horsepower Mustang at New York Auto Show!
Here is a link to the Motor Trend on line article about the 1000. Seems they completely designed and built a new suspension system for the car along with the other changes..They are only building 100, including the track cars, according to the article, which boasts the price.

I agree with what everybody's already said, this car is ridiculous. Shelby's had their run. IMO, they should continue to make hotrod mustangs, but they should do it like Saleen and Roush, as an independent outfit only. They should let SVT make Ford's in-house super'stangs.
200k for a mustang that is clearly over powered for the chassis, because it's slower 0-60 than a normal GT500 is just silly. It's like kids in the playground saying "anything you can do I can do better!" without actually thinking about what they're making.

On a serious note, I just got the latest R&T and read the cover article about the shelby 1000, and I may have to change some of my initial opinions. I still think that 200k for a mustang is absurd, and I still think that computer wizardry like launch control and 3-level traction/stability control has no place in a mustang either, but, this new car isn't just a super snake turned up to 11 like I first thought. It's actually a very different car. The whole subframe and what not is different, the engine sits further back and lower than a normal shelby and so on. I bet it posts some pretty impressive handling numbers when the road tests start to come out.
