Shelby 2011: does it worth the premium price ?

I already ordered a Mustang GT/CS 2012 convertible, fully equipped with GPS, HID and should receive it by mid-May.

I recently noticed that my local dealer still have in stock, 7 x 2011 Mustang Shelby 500, including 4 convertible.

I'm wondering if it worths the 14 000$ Can + tax premium to pay for the 2011 Shelby instead of my GT/CS 2012 ? The specific Shelby I was looking for, is convertible as well, but equipped only with the Shaker 1000 sound system as an option. Also, does the SVT package is a real must, or it's possible to live without ?

I'm not a race fan anyway....but really like the rarity, look and engine of the Shelby.

Well you're talking about two pretty different cars here. Both are great but it depends what you want. If you like rarity, then go with the GT500. (granted you have the money)

In the end, just make sure YOU'RE happy with the car you receive. If you don't think you'll enjoy the GT/CS as much as a GT500, then that would've answered the question if I was in your situation. Life is short, make sure you enjoy it to the fullest.

In fact at first I was interrested by the Boss 302, in term of rarity and bang for the buck versus performances wise it's the best for sure. But for my purpose, the Boss is not appropriate, I'm looking for a well equipped convertible car, with all the luxury goodies and offering very good overall performance. It will be a summer toy anyway, since I'll be driving it in summer time only.

The Shelby is a real beast, but I'm wondering if it worth really the price they ask for ?

On the 7 Shelby there is in my dealer backyard, only one really attracted me. Here's the beast.....the red one :

White one in that picture is sick. I would of went with a gt500 coupe if my wife would drive a stick but she won't and because of that I ordered a 2012 gt/cs. My last car was a vert but I thought I'd try a coupe this time around. It just seemed that there were more instances where we'd rather have the top up then down when driving. ie: too hot or too cold etc.. if you didn't go with a shelby vert the price difference shrinks that much more.

The white one is HOT. If its your summer toy and you're in it for the performance, I say go with the GT500 with SVT package. Of course, the 5.0 is no slouch either! You could always just throw a Whipple on the CS if you want a little more oomph for quite a bit less than the GT500.

As mentioned above, be happy with yourself at the end of the day.

I'm usually a white guy, but **** that red one is hoooooooooooot

From what you described, I think that red GT500 will be a perfect boulevard bruiser for you! If you got the means, I say go for it since that's clearly what you want.

I better like the red one on the picture. Also maybe the SVT package improve the handling, but I hate those 19/20" wheesl coming in the package....I much prefer the base 19's, especially in dark grey. I even much prefer the 19's coming in the CS package, than the ones included in the SVT package of the Shelby.

By the way Ethanjbeau, my CS '12 ordered is exactly the same as yours, minus the top.....same black color and equipment.

If you can afford it and you want the extra power then go for the GT500.

Here in Canada getting a Whipple will run you about $12,000 installed and Tuned. That brings the price so close to the GT500 that it is no longer an issue. Also insuring a GT with an after-market blower is not so easy here.

You'll certainly enjoy the CS. You have good taste

After you said this is just a summer toy, go for the GT500. I love that white one. Its awesome. If you were planning on driving it year round I would say go for the GT. I would've loved a GT500 but it was out of my price range and it will be driven all year.

Due to the stripping- isn't the red one a 2010 GT500? You should be able to get a good deal on it... as opposed to a 2012 or even 2011. As I'm sure the dealer want's to see if moved.

The stripes are not related to the year but whether it has the SVTP Package or not. While it could be a 10 it could also be a 2011

It is definetely a 2011, according to the Ford sticker in the windows. I'm just wondering how much they will want to bring the price down. The sticker price right now is 66 149$ Can + tax, and I'd like to offer them 60 000$ can + tax....so not sure if they are willing to drop that much ! For some reasons, they don't seems to sell very much Shelby in my area. Like I said, they still have 7 x 2011 in stock, + 2 x 2010, all brand new.

If I decide to go with my original CS ordered, I will not add a compressor. It's too much expensive, for what it gives (reliability, lost of waranty etc etc). I'll sure go for a catback Borla, and probably a Ford Racing handling kit.....and maybe later, the front Brembo brake kit. What disapoint me with the CS 19's wheels, is that they are just 8.5" wide, so it's impossible to fit wider tires than 255.

If money wasn't an issue I would have gone for the GT500. But I do love my GT...

Also, go for the red one!

Congrats for your order Eric! I ordered my 2012 GT from the same dealer...

I saw the Shelby's, and I was tempted, but out of my price range... I would say: If you have the money, pick the Shelby, this way I could buy it from you at a good price when you'll sell it...

See you in town this summer!

Hi Cyberalized, nice to see folks from Quebec city on this forum ! Did you received yours already ?If not, what's the ETA for it ? Which date did you pass your order ?

For me it will be my first Mustang ever, and my first American Car in fact. For now I do drive Volkswagen cars for differents reasons, but this time I want to have fun ! And before my Volkswagen, I always drove Japanese cars from Honda and Toyota.

Lets drive what's america does best: muscle cars !

Salut Éric, bienvenue dans notre forum.

From the kind of driving you'll be doing with the car, i say go with the 5.0 CS vert. Don't get me wrong, the GT500 is a beast, BUT think about gas prices, insurance cost, etc.etc.
But more importantly, go with your guts feeling and enjoy the car as much as you can. The 5.0 is one fast puppy. You won't regret it.

Are u from the Quebec Mustang club !

I have the '11 GT/CS and love the car. I went from a Volkswagen CC to the Mustang. I really enjoyed the VW, but honestly, it had no soul. It was a transport device. I previously owned a Scirocco, three Corrado VR6's (one was my wife's), and we currently have an '09 Passat Wagon. So, I understand where you are coming from, believe me. If this is just going to be a weekend, fair weather toy, then go for the Red vert! Just beware the Mounties And, above all, enjoy the drive.
