Scratch on new rims

Unfortunately one of my brand new rims has a scratch. Only noticed it after I detailed the car last night for the first time. The scratch leads from the edge of the rim to under the tire, probably from when the tire was first mounted.

Anyone have experience with AM customer service?

Its worth a shot since the AM customer service is usually good. But they definitely are under no obligation to replace it, especially if they were bought and put on a while ago.

You can touch it up with GM storm gray paint. Paint codes are 14, wa 391e

Did you have the tires mounted?

If they came mounted then that's definitely not curb rash or anything you did. It would look way different.

However, if you just bought the rims then you need to talk to your tire shop or who mounted the tires.

I've had nothing but great experience with AM and their customer service. Let us know how it goes.

They came mounted and balanced from AM

Exactly my thinking. That is NOT curb rash. How would it extend under the tire if it was?

Hoping for it. Just wish I had noticed it before installing them on the car. My bad for not inspecting them better.

I think I was just too excited to get them on the car and show them off, because they look absolutely fantastic 11/10.

I'm also glad I didn't immediately line up a buyer for my old rims, because I'd be out a car while this rim is getting repaired. Back to the boring 18s for a couple of days.

It looks like those machines that are use to mount / dismount tires that caused the scratch.

I'm guessing AM will take care of you. It definitely looks like it is from mounting, and they have pretty good customer service.

Heard back from AM and they agree it's from the mounting. I'm getting a new rim free of charge, which is fantastic and they deserve a lot of credit. Glad I went with them. I understand these things happen.

Only problem is time. They want me to dismount the tire from the rim and send it to them and they will send me a new one and pay for the mounting and balancing. All fine and dandy, but it's my daily driver, and I have a life.

I've proposed two other options for them that gets around this, and actually will save THEM money, hopefully I'll get a reply by Wednesday.

I've always liked AM. I've gotten rims and tires from them several times. One set over a season started losing its finish. Looked like some sort of corrosion. They took care of it with a new set. Once I can afford it, my stock rims and tires will be sold for a set from AM once again.

UPDATE: AM LOVE FEST

Called AM today after I hadn't gotten a response to my email.

The final solution is that they are sending me the new rim first so I can put it on and have a car to drive, and I'll then send the old scratched one back. The only minor issue was that I had to buy this rim first and they will refund me once they get the old one, which I understand since they don't want to get robbed.

The really great thing is they are refunding $10 more than I spent on the replacement, AND they are paying for shipping, AND they are paying for mounting and balancing.

So in the end, I will lose about 2 hours of time, 2 weeks of waiting for perfect rims, but will net $10.

Huge props to AM for their fantastic customer service. Could not be happier, and I can't wait to break the camera out for pictures with the new rims.

I scratched my AM rims a week after getting them. I used some gloss black touch up paint and you can't tell it is there.

Having mounted hundreds of tires in my day, this sh*t happens every once in a while, even if you're being very careful. Props to AM for making it right.
