Sad day :( not car related

Had to put my dog down today. He was a 12 year old jack russell terrier, and my friend for all that time. It was very sad, I consider myself a "mans man" but I couldn't hold it any longer and just broke down. Sorry cause I know it's not car related but I feel better putting this out there.

Very sorry for your loss. It's always tough...our pets often become members of the family. I had a 21-year old cat that passed last year-had her almost half my life!

You can take some comfort that you provided a loving home and try to think of the good memories of times well-spent with your pup. So many animals are never that lucky.

Really sorry to hear. I had to put down my baby last spring. It's still hard thinking about her.

Very sorry to hear that. I totally feel for you.

Last November my 10 year old Keeshond suddenly wouldn't eat or move. Took him to the vet and got an xray done. Found out he had a huge cyst on his spleen.

Could go with an expensive operation with no guarantee of success, or put him to sleep.
Went for the operation - a dog is more than a dog, definitely more like a friend or "son", and I felt I owed him a chance.

Was a very hard day waiting to find out the results of the operation.
The cyst (and spleen) was successfully removed, but still took days to see if he could come back from the operation.
Fortunately he recovered and is back to his old self. 3 months now and still going strong, knock on wood!

Non-dog people may say "c'mon, it's just a dog."
Only dog-lovers understand.
I'm very sorry for your loss.

I'm gonna go hug my dog right now, and I'll give him one from you.

I feel for you, Al. We had a 20.5 year old Chihuahua mix, looked like a little Doberman. Smart, but a little nippy. Spirit had a lot of it, and loved riding in a car... then absolutely ADORED riding motorcycles with my bro, until her 17th year, when she started getting a little gimpy/balance challenged, and had to stop riding. Hard day when it was her time.

Then there was Daisy, the absolutely smartest dog on the planet (well, for me anyway). Lab/Dachsund mix. She *knew* stuff. It was uncanny how she would learn the first time right off. Really an awesomely cool dog. Hadda have a bandanna and a collar that jingled on her or she would be very upset, didn't like bein' naked, and both were required. Was also an awesome riding in the car dog, but a little bigger than Spirit and challenged for comfort in comparison. She only made it to 13, I want to say, but she had a good time all the way.

Those were tough days when they passed on. Dogs are family. My condolences to ya.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss, alcarames. I don't have any *real* kids, but I know I'm going to be devastated when my black lab goes (which I hope is no time soon) -- it'll be like losing a son. I love that dang dog.

Sorry to hear

My dog was lost for three days a few weeks ago. During that time, I just didn't care about anything else at all - not the mods I had bought for my car, my job, or my new house.

He's a 10 year old Golden Retriever named Shadow. The name is from a goldie in an old movie "Homeward Bound." I can't even imagine having to make the decision to put him to sleep.

You have my condolences

Sorry For your Loss, I have 5 of my own

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sorry to hear about your dog. Our pets are our family and anyone that thinks different are just close minded. I come from a family that takes in every unwanted animal they find. I guess I have to think when they past at least they had a great life and a family that loved them dearly.

I really appreciate all of the kind and comforting words. I know a lot of you have already gone through this with your pets. It's nice knowing I'm not the only one who feels this way for their pet. It was difficult for everyone, I have a six year old stepson who took it pretty hard and a two year old who was asking where the dog was and to go get him. I got Peewee when I was 19 and he was a puppy, I'm 31 now, and we've been through a lot together. It was hard coming home and him not being there to greet me at the door and his little bed and bowls are still there where he last used them. It was hard but I didn't want him to suffer, he had liver failure problems, wasn't eating and vomiting for a
few days. Thank you guys again for the support and I really like the rainbow bridge poem, it definitely brought a tear to my eye.

Having gone through the same thing just before Christmas (cancer instead of liver failure), I hope you're already looking for a new friend. Nothing heals the heart faster. My condolences.

So sorry to hear this. We had a 20 year old cat that passed away a while ago and it devastated my wife, she'd had her since was 10. I'm a complete softy for our dog Chloe. Love her like crazy. Here's a video of her that might bring a smile to your face.
