Ultimately, that is the only fix - a new hood.

I have a 2014 with 40k miles and FORD denied my claim- out of warranty. It's 100% a defect. Leading edge of hood bubbling up in many spots. Loved the car until now.

It's not out of warranty for the paint.

Paint warranty doesn't mean squat.. Being that he's over the 3 year/36k factory warranty, Ford will only cover rust/corrosion under the corrosion protection warranty for up to 5 years, if the area is completely perforated..

Otherwise he's SOL

Yeah, Ford is not going to do jack for you if you are out of the 3yr/36k.

After 3yr/36 you're usually SOL, however you might be able to get FORD to pay half of the replacement cost if your argue with them.

I had a new hood put on my 2007 GT with 38,000 miles on it. The same dealer that did the warranty work on my 2011 GT with the same issue.

What a terrible black mark on an otherwise terrific run of cars. This is such an obvious flaw (visually) and it just dampens good feelings that we might have otherwise.

My 2011 is starting to show its own bubbles...so far, they're under the lip only but it is only a matter of time before they breach the leading edge.

My 2014 hood was replaced last year with no questions from the dealer. Ford approved immediately.

If your 2014 is still under it's 3 year/36k mile bumper to bumper warranty, then of course Ford is going to cover it, as there's nothing for them to question..

Therefore they would have no other choice but to replace your hood, however if your 3 year/36k warranty had expired ? Ford wouldn't had done squat about it..

The only other way they would replace the hood, is under the 5 year corrosion protection plan which only covers rust through perforation !

I got exactly the compensation deal mentioned here after my 3yr/60,000 km warranty expired. New hood and paint with Ford covering at least half the cost. I have to make it clear that it took a lot of persistence and tact and patience to make it happen. Frustrating situation nonetheless. It's a sad thing Ford didn't fix this age old problem years ago to avoid all this customer dissatisfaction year after year.

Consider yourself fortunate you have a dealer that obviously values your business as a customer.. Most however won't even settle for covering half the cost once the factory 3 year/36k warranty expires..

They have forced many owners to repaint their hood instead of replacing it. With the galvanic corrosion issue there is no way to fix it since the contamination is between the seam. According to my dealer replacement is the only way to go. If it comes back after this I will replace with fiberglass and call it a day.

I just went to the dealer with a similar situation. Pretty much a zero percent chance of getting anything done. Kind of a shame to be honest. 22k miles and bubbling on the lip of hood and underneath as well.

Try another dealership, talk with the Service manager.

I guess at this point I can only try. Unless I invest in a fiberglass hood.

Just received notice from the dealer. DENIED!!!!
Because there is no perforation through hood, it isn't a claim they can warranty. This sucks. haven't even owned the car for a year.

Scott ! When it comes to Ford, this doesn't come as any surprise in the least bit and I couldn't agree with you more.. So what is the point in repainting the hoods when the contamination is indeed between the seams and therefore cannot be fixed.. IMHO it would cost far more to completely strip the hood down to bare aluminum, then having to re-primer and re-paint only to find out that it won't stop the corrosion from coming back anyhow..

Therefore I agree with your dealer that the only way to resolve the hood issue is to replace the **** thing and be done with it, but as you well know Ford won't do squat for you once the factory 3 year/36k warranty expires and the 5 year corrosion protection warranty is also useless as it will only cover rust through perforation..

At any rate, when the time comes.. I'll just replace my hood with a fiberglass one just as you have and be done with it
