Was piddling around on google last night, did a search for "Great driving roads Texas" and got lots of results. One had a map of Texas with different areas sectioned off. I clicked on the section where I live and it gave a list of recommended roads that were fun drives. The site I looked at was geared to motorcycles but also sports cars. One road listed was not too far from the house so I thought I'd go check it out. I had intended to go early this morning figuring Sunday morning would have the least amount of traffic. Unfortunately, mother nature stepped up to squash that plan, rained like hell so I was just going to blow it off and go some other time. Sat around the house watching the tube and playing online. The weather broke around 1pm and after waiting a while the streets seemed dry and I decided to go ahead and hit it.

I'll never be a great road racer although I have raced at TWS, but that was a long time ago in a Omni GLH Turbo, nothing at all like a Mustang GT, and I was able to scare myself a few times on this run.

First time I have really pushed my cars handling and it was a blast! The road was a two lane Texas black top rural road, which means it was a pretty good, well maintained road. The worst part of it was that there were no shoulders so on those times I scared myself I was kicking up grass and dirt. On the northbound section of the loop I made, there was a bit of traffic and since the road had lots of blind curves and quick hills, it made passing a hurry up and wait for a shot kind of deal. On my way back south I followed a different road and there was hardly any traffic on it so I was able to have more fun on it.

What I did was start out at Cleveland, follow the route north on FM1725 to County 150, then turn right and go a few miles to FM945 and turn right(south) and follow that back to FM2025 and turn right and go back to Hwy 59.

So, if you live north or northeast of Houston and want to go have a blast driving a great twisty road, go check it out. And if you don't live up my way, try that google search for a great driving road near where you live.

Loads of fun, and I even ended up on 18.5 MPG when I got back home, started out at 16.9!
