So Ford says its normal. Fine with me. Hasn't really bothered me anyway, just reminds me there is a 412hp fire breathing beast at my controls

It's funny because, should a 400 HP V8 have NOT caused the car to shake back in the 70's, people would be complaining. Now it's just the opposite. Car manufacturer's can't please everyone, and I personally love the slight lope at idle.

I've complained that I hated the way it sounds in drive-thru and in my garage where the idle sounds bounce off the walls. I still hold to that. To each his own.

And they shook in the 70s because they didn't know how to make them not shake, not because people asked for it.

Wasn't there a QC about noisy timing chains as well ! I sometimes think mine is a bit noisy, especially when inside the garage. Just sayin'...

I like the sound of a multi-valve OHC. Lot's of stuff goin' on right up top that you don't get with a pushrod motor.

Assuming they all idle as described and its not just a few, keep in mind the 5.0 is higher compression so the "pop" is harder. And with EPA, they're probably tweaking TiVct to burn all fumes before they head out the tailpipe.

Plus, a 90d crank sounds different than a 180 crank right? That's the American V8! (In case there's a few beemer converts. LOL)

They shook in the 60's, early 70's because of compression, raw power, cams, no EPA, and good gas! Counter balancing is not new.

Serious question: What does a noisy timing chain sound like?

You'd have to call me up so i could have you listen to it, but then again, i might be wrong. All these valves, cams, actuators, chains and other stuff going on all at once is not something i'm not familiar with. Get me a 351W with a 292H Comp cam and Holley 750 double pumper. Now we're talkin'.

I can barely tell mine's running, especially coming from my comparatively-loud 3V 4.6L V8!

My idle "hick ups" every so often. Doesn't bother me. GM 6.0L are known to do the same thing and has no negative effects on the engine. My dad put 250k miles on his 6.0L with no problems. This new 5.0 has a lot going on inside it and that high compression can make it hard to tune the idle from the factory. Don't worry people it is normal and maybe later down the road Ford will have a better tune for idle in later years. Also, the plastic valve covers are going to let some more noise through compared to the magnesium ones that came on the 3v's. So I would think anyways.

I have a MARK 8 LSC that has the DOHC 4.6l in it. With 34k on it. It sounds just like
my new 5.0l so I am going to say it sounds and runs like normal to me for a Ford 4cam motor.
Lots of parts and pieces whirling around on top of the heads.
