Road Trip-Engine bay wash? Black GT
Road Trip-Engine bay wash? Black GT
I did my first road trip on Thursday to visit some relations and a friend. Toronto north up to Georgian Bay.
Unknown to me the relations live on a gravel road. Believe me I took it easy.
Also main roads had lots of construction going on.
So my Black GT is a mess. More dusty then anything. And bugs.
I also have a 10 year old Jeep Grand Cherokee and wash the engine area almost at every wash. Never a issue. (now my rain and winter ride)
But the electronics are not in the engine.
Notice the fuse box on the 2011 is front and centre. (left front to to be exact.)
So my question is can I wash the engine and hood and all metal with no issues?
Just wondering
PS: Got my first speeding ticket. First in 20 years. Took it easy the all the way. Last 50KM on a 500KM ride. Passing issue. Will post more details later.

I've always cleaned my engines with them running. I've seen too many times somebody wash their motor and then it wouldn't start. Also, if you are using a pressure washer you may want to turn the pressure down to keep from blasting through seals and blowing off decals and any other coatings.
Aluminum foil works wonders for protecting certain spots. Also, I suggest not using any sort of pressure washer. Water has a habit of getting past things, and that only helps. Use a hose, and try to avoid using a jet spray, leave it as more of a fan when rinsing to help minimize pressurized water in the engine bay.

I clean mine at the local car wash all the time, I soap the engine, hood blanket, and engine bay down all the time - haven't had any issues since 2006. Since both cars (former 07 GT and my current GT500 were fitted with a CAI, I do carrya bag with me to cover the open filter element.
Thanks for the tip on the manual, I always use simple green solution about 20% and cover the fuse box and mass air filter. Cold environment spray rinse and blow dry... I noticed on the 2010/11 the fire wall also has a covering insulator like the under side of the hood...
