Exactly what I do but now trying to work in some left-foot braking.

it's not just smoother, it's quicker because you get in the gear while you are braking so you can hit the throttle right away after braking and get out of corners faster.

Some people prefer to ride in their car, others prefer to drive their car. Same as it ever was.

At the Boss Track Attack the very first thing we were taught and practiced was "heel and toe" downshifting.

The purpose of it is to not upset the suspension as you're braking and entering a turn where maximum grip is needed for the fastest lap time possible. I noticed a huge difference in my ability to "un-brake" smoothly vs. "Front Row" Joe Foster's ability! No surprise there...

The GT500's are pigs and it wouldn't matter if you H & T'd since they don't really corner anyway!

We went from discussing one advanced pedal technique to some others. Did I miss something?

Anyone else starting to suspect that his guy doesn't know how to rev match?

I do it as much as possible. Sometimes it's tricky with pointy dress shoes. Especially because the pedals in my 12 were the aluminum ones. Hardly an grip on those

I went from Skechers to heavy work boots the other day. Can you say rough launch?

Hardley. When I shift while having fun the rpm's don't have much time to fall down at all. I'm not gonna take an extra second to "match the rpms" when a quick power shift will do the job.

Then youll be slower and have more wear on your clutch, but youre welcome for the advice. Your quotes suggest that you think its some idea outta right field but you obviously have no idea how wrong you are. Its also called a maintenance throttle if youre interested. If not, this probably isnt the thread for you.

Ok...yes. I know what you're getting at here but I think you have it backwards. Rev matching when up-shifting is just a matter of pausing for the appropriate amount of time before engaging the clutch. If you do it perfectly, you won't even feel the shift. If you're drag racing (or accelerating hard) you'll typically just bang into the next gear and let the transmission, etc. absorb the shock (and typically chirp the tires)...

...but this thread is about rev matching on down shifts--- and the engine revs must go UP when down-shifting to match the speed of the car to the lower gear.

...which is smoother, allowing you to get out of a corner and onto the throttle more efficiently and quickly. The faster and more balanced you are on the corner, the faster youll be on the straight...exponentially.
