retractable rear glass

I was thinking...if you dont have a convetable, but want the wind to blow through your hair, you roll down the windows...but....you create a lot of drag because the rear window acts as a parachute. How realistic is it to have a rear window that goes down by a switch just like all of the other windows? There would need to be modifications of course so that the glass has somewhere to go, but this may be an alternative to a convertable? It may also get rid of saftey concerns some have about verts and roll-over accidents...

well ive never seen a car with that option, seems intresting but i think its impossible on the s197, were would the glass go there is not much trunk space to accommodate the rear glass, unless you have a plastic one like the convertables.

Ford had one I can't relall its name at the moment but it had a kinda like spoiler around the window I'll find a picture of one some time but There really was one.

I think for that it would be better to slide into the roof rather then the trunk.

I for one could do without such a thing but it is an interesting idea.

yeah..I guess they do do that...I think I remember some station wagons doing it as well...

The convertibles have a glass rear window.

I think it would be cool if it went up over the roof... though that might look kinda funny.

Or possibly a retractable glass roof panel that retracts like the Porsche Targa.

not over the roof, but under.....between the sheet metal and headliner....

i think thats what "Knight" ment, atleast thats how i understood what he wrote, i don't know about "AWmustang" post though seem he mean on top of the roof like he wrote.

theold 65 mercury monterrey had this- but it was a kinda reverse notchback, was kinda ugly to me...definitely different, seen a couple that were two toned, looked pretty sharp- just not my cup of tea...something ford could easily do for the wind without noise and mpg increases, add the rear cowl vents like my 65 galaxie 4 dr hdtp(also not the prettiest thing out there, but not bad for a 4 door, and its kinda grown on us...was gift from neighbor).
Anyway with the rear cowl, open the floor vents and the rear vents, you get a nice quiet flow of air from your feet to your face, front and back seats too...really works well on the highway- my guess was they pulled the plug on it due to lost a/c sales- but with todays fuel issues, another 1 mpg CAFE highway might make it worth revisiting- all cars have a/c now anyways.

Yeah... i did mean over, only because i couldn't think of anyway that they could acomplish the under without really sacrificing headroom... but if they can do it... definately under would be better.

yes they did make mustangs t-top.......

yeah i think t-top was offered on some of the mustang II's and also 79-88 fox bodies.
