Removing stock spoiler, adding plugs-- does it look ok?
Removing stock spoiler, adding plugs-- does it look ok?
I've wanted to do this since day 1...which is a shame since I ordered my car and I could have just ticked the "spoiler delete" box.
It seems that the technique for removing a spoiler is to remove the four bolts and run fishing line through to separate the double-sided tape... Is that correct?
When the spoiler is gone, is the surface respectable looking?
If so my plan is to get some small pulgs from the hardware store, paint them with (Kona Blue) touch up paint.
So....anyone tried something like this? Does it look like crap?

The threads are actually connected to the spoiler. So when you take the nuts of, the threads, still stick through the deck lid. The underside of the factory spoiler is stuck using a large amount of double sided sticky tape. You can run fishing line through the tape, until you get to one of the threads. Then you do need to find a way of lifting the spoiler a little, so that you can push the fishing line under the spoiler on the other side of the thread.... until you get to the next one.
Once you've removed the spoiler, clean the deck lid using lots of water. A lot of yuk (apart from the tape residue) is caught under the spoiler. When there is no more sand or other hard stuff on the lid, you can easily remove the residual tape with some "sticker remover". Clean everything up afterwards, and put some shiny wax on.
sounds easy...
When I did this (it was to replace my factory spoiler with a different one), the holes in the deck lid looked too prominent. Also, even though my car has never seen rain, and is mostly hand washed, you could see where the old spoiler had been (maybe I could have buffed out the boundary, but I just replaced with bigger spoiler). My car is DIB, that could also play a factor.

I put a GT500 spoiler on a couple days ago. I don't have a camera, but I also had the quarter size hole in addition to the spoiler mounting holes.
Either way, I agree that it wouldn't be easy to plug it and have it look good.

And yes, the wires need to run from the trunk to the decklid.

exactly. Ford even adds a little "pad" on the OEM GT 500 spoiler to cover up the quarter size hole.
I kid you not. My 11 V6 had six holes in the decklid. There was an additional tiny he right next to the quarter sized hole. Silly right? My 12 with the pedestal spoiler has six holes as well. Lol
Taking it off was much harder than I expected. And maybe I was too careless, but the fishing line absolutely scratched the paint.
I wouldn't go with the plugs. Either leave the spoiler, or get them filled and painted.
It looks to pretty to remove the spoiler again.
At first I was really sure, about the number of holes. Now, I'm not so sure about that anymore. As I was going to be covering all holes anyway, with the new spoiler. There are four bolts, so at least four holes.
