Regular vs Premium Fuel?

Has anyone had the chance to run both 87 and 91/93 to compare the performance difference? Not sure what my dealer put in the car as i still have a half a tank. If it was 87 im wondering how much of a difference 91/93 will be compared to the 87. I know you gain hp but do you also gain torque with the the premium fuel over the regular.

Straight from Fordvehicles.com:

Premium Fuel - 412/390
Regular Fuel - 402/377

Guess it depends on how much power you want to give up for the extra $3 - $4 a tank it would cost to use Premium over regular unleaded

FWIW, if you go to the track or race ricers from light to light, 93. For cruising around town 87/89.

Does anybody know if the v6 is rated 305 with regular or premium? It doesn't say on the mustang home page.

Owners manual says 87 octane is recommended for the V6. So, I am assuming those numbers are good to go with 87 gas. It does has a quick subsection about the 5.0 being able to run on 87 but it may need 91 for best performance.

Why would you get a 5.0 and spend over 30k for a performance car and not want the full potential of the engine using the higher octane just to save $5 at the pump.

Im asking this because i was wondering if the dealers put in 87. Once i put in 93 will i feel a big difference in 10hp and 13torque extra?

Because at part throttle you can realize the full potential so it is a waste, IMHO. But if you go to the track, definitely.

I've worked at 3 dealerships in the past and most valet's put 87 octane in every vehicle... I check the receipts.

An 80 mile daily round trip commute, at least a tank a week, will 10HP really be missed in traffic? I doubt it, and the extra few dollars saved doesn't hurt. The technology is really amazing to have 11:1 compression and still use 87. Kudos to Ford.

Our on site tank has 87 octane so that is what you have in there Joe. We do take the GT500's off site to be filled with premium.

Thanks Paul. Wow so i get to have more power on tap once the tank empties and i fill up with 93.
A great excuse to drive around more and use up that fuel.
