Rear Axle Upgrade Cost

Anyone have a 'ballpark' price to upgrade from the standard rear axle gear set, 3.31 NLS, to a 3.73 LS?

$325 or something like that from Ford. That's if you bought a new Mustang with that option. If you let a shop do it for you, you might be closer to $1000. (parts, labor, tuner.)

If NLS and LS are supposed to mean, Non Limited Slip and Limited Slip, then you don't have to worry about NLS because all 2011's are coming with a Limited Slip, even V6 cars.

The 3.73 option is $395 MSRP.

And I also thought that a T-lock was standard on the 2010 GTs as well.

Limited slip has been standard equipment in Mustang GT's at least since they first started using the 8.8 and probably before that.

All V8 Mustangs since 1985 rec'd a Traction-Lok 8.8" rear end. V6 Mustangs will finally get the Traction-Lok axle starting in 2011 as standard equipment.

I added a Traction-Lok carrier and 4.10 gears to my '93 T-Bird 5.0L LX a few years back (came with 3.08 open carrier) and it cost about $1,000 for parts & labor.

Don't forget an installation kit (shims, bearings, etc., as needed), and if it's a 2010 or earlier V6, you need to buy the traction-lok carrier ($250-$300).

I had found a 2010 GT that had everything I wanted except for the 3.73 ratio rear end. It has the standard 3.31 and was wondering what the upgrade would cost me. I think I'll past and keep looking.

keep looking ...

if you can, also look into the "Track Package." It's really a steal for what you get. I had the opportunity to test drive a GT with the 3.73 followed by one with the full track package and ... what a difference.

I would like to get one with the TrackPack but I am not certain of the summer only tires. I live in Virginia and will drive it in the cool weather not in cold weather. To spent over $1,500 for a set of winter season tires and wheels does not seem reasonable. Also not a big fan of the high cost of replacement tires. I have not found a car with the Track Pack in Grabber Blue that is not loaded or only has the TP. Actually I found one and it was sold three days before I could get to the dealer. I would like to have the Comfort Package in addition to the TP for the heated seats.
