Railcar tracking for BNSF
Railcar tracking for BNSF
Has anyone had experience tracking a railcar with BNSF? I have the railcar number (ETTX710758) but from what I can see their tracking system is no longer public after 9/11.
Anyone with some experience out there?

Here's another question for anyone who knows something...
I was able to get a print out from my dealer showing the destination for BNSF. The end event says status will be "AP" which I believe stands for "Actual Placed" and indicates that it's at its final destination.
Is there a different status code if it's being switched off to a different carrier?

No railroad information is available for public view, there used to be a test login that I used to get into BNSF's online tracking system (ODIS, at the time)...however that was removed several years ago.
Union Pacific used to have a phone number to call, however I lost that.
Good luck, but you will have a hard time.

I believe everything leaves Flat Rock on CSX. You can call 1-877-744-7279 to get tracking info, at least I was able to earlier this year. You must have the rail car number. And you must not try to speak to a person. I don't recall the details, but it is a voice response system. You are given choices of numbers to press and I believe 5 is the one you want. You should then be prompted to enter or say your rail car number. Then you will get a spoken location status. Good luck.
I have a BNSF account and can look up cars by the last 8 digits of their VIN, should anyone want to track their Mustang on the rail. I don't have accounts for any other railroad, though - just BNSF - as that's who ships all of our vehicles where I work.

I was gonna say Deysha, but see she is already on the case. It does help a bit with the waiting. At least you know it's on the move.
Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the new Mustang.

Are you saying you can get up to date location of the rail car?
The reason I ask is I ordered an ATS and when it hadn't arrived 4 weeks after it left the factory, Cadillac could NOT get that info. It did show up the next day though right as the salesman was about to activate it's OnStar and use the stolen car procedure to get the exact GPS info.

I didn't like that Cadillac couldn't locate my car in transit. That would be a factor in choosing the next car but ONLY if Ford isn't in the same boat. GM has a system that gives dealers updates and the latest known status. The problem was the status wasn't very useful because it was just "in transit" and was so for 4 weeks. All the dealer or your counterpart at GM could say was what a "typical" time in transit is.

Where it comes from isn't that important. Are you saying the Visibility system has the location (within what time period) of the rail car the Mustang is on? In other words does Visibility interface with the railroad to get real-time or frequent rail car location updates?
