Question for Tune Makers

Are tunes also built/adjusted based on different types of exhaust? For example, if I decided to put on Corla axle-backs or Magnaflow catbacks wtih an x-pipe, would tune programs make additional horsepower for either of those, and would each require a different tune?

Just trying to decide if I should work the exhaust upgrade first, then order the tuner/tune, or if it doesn't matter, in which case I would probably get the tuner/tune first.

Thanks in advance!

They are going to adjust the AFR but it will run off the MAF and Factory Wideband O2 Sensors. I dont believe the tune will need modified unless you install long tube headers, As far as an X-pIpe most Tuners shut off the rear O2 Sensors so it wont throw a code for no Cats.

X-pipe doesn't mean you are going to dump the cats so shutting off the rear O2's is not automatic.

A custom tune should be something you discuss with the tuner so he knows all the mods done to the car and can adjust accordingly.

A true custom tune will only be done on a dyno, otherwise it is just an educated guess.

I have both CAI/tune and exhaust and they were installed in that order.I did the Steeda CAI and tune and it worked perfect, car pulled harder troughout all rpm ranges and still idled smooth as stock.

I wanted to kind of do all my mods at the same time but I had to wait on my Magnaflow exhaust due to shipping mix up and backorders. When I installed the comp series catback and x-pipe with highflow cats,I did not have to make any adjustments to the tune.My car ran fine but after about 2 days I got a check engine light.

I checked the codes (p0420,p0430) and cleared them .The new cats were flowing so much better then stock I had to turn off the rear o2's.This has been my experience with my set up.I'm sure you can do catback and even X/H pipe and be ok with a canned tune.BTW if anyone is deciding on a exhaust system, this is the holly grail for this car

Loud if you want it and quiet when just cruising.Hope this info helps, sorry for the long post

Zilla, which Magnaflow did you get? I had the performance (approx 5" round) Magnaflow catbacks on my 06 and the drone at 65 or so was almost unbearable. Don't get me wrong, sounded great at take off and reasonable at all but highway speed...but 65-70 was annoying...

I have the comp series catback #15590 very close in appearance to the magnapacks.I have taken two long trips and when in 5th or 6th gear at around 70-75 there is very little drone. It's strange because at times depending on gear and rpm's there is no drone at all and the car sounds as quiet as stock.

If you buy your tuner from American Muscle / Bama, and also buy your mods from them, they give you a custom tune for each mod as you go -- I don't know if they actually do anything, or how they would know the exact best tune for the myriad of mods that are available, but that's what they promise.
