Question about getting gears installed
Question about getting gears installed
If I get gears installed by a shop or dealership will they re calibrate and tune it for my auto.
Also if I get a bama tuner and install a tune but later have to put it back to stock tune will I still be able to drive accurately with the 3.73 gears or will the tuner put it back to the original stock tune when I had 3.15 gears.
I'm just hoping someone can help me with this questions.

Shop should be able to calibrate. My place charges $50, but I had a tuner so didn't pay extra.
If you put it back to stock after using a tuner your speedometer will be off. Hope that helps, good luck.

So if I have to take it back to ford would it be better to just leave the tune on
I've heard others say that Ford will only be able to recalibrate your speedo if the gear choice you swapped to was an original option for the car. If the case of the Auto, it only came with 3.15's, no options.

We can definitely adjust for your new gear ratio within the tune, if you get a Bama tuner! Besides adjusting your speedo you'll notice huge improvements in Power, Torque, Acceleration, Drive Ability, Gas Mileage, Shift Points (If its an Auto) and so much more!
I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions or need some assistance. Our Bama Performance tuning specialists are here in the building Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM EST and Saturday 9AM-5:30PM EST. You can hit them up directly at 888.226.9764 and they'll get you squared away!

I recently has my 3.31's swapped out for 3.73's. I called my local Ford dealer and told them what I did and that I needed my speedo reset. They did it in about an hour. I did not do any tune to my car. So it was just a matter of Ford changing the gear ratio on the car's computer.

I know the 3.73 is what the manual guys are going with.

Not all of us. I started with 3.73's and went to 4.56's. Over at the S197 Forum website they have a 1/4 mile drag list of the fastest 5.0L's and the quickest all-motor 5.0's run 4.56 and 4.88 gears. My last Mustang was an auto (07 GT) and I ran 4.10's quite successfully. Despite the new 6R80 auto having a steep 1st gear, more gearing is definitely worth doing, IMO.
