question for 2011+ GT Auto owners out
My car is currently in the dealer for shift flares, they wont have time to diagnois until monday. In the mean time im wondering if what im reading is true or have any one else experience this.
With light acceleration when it reaches around 42mph (5th gear) upshift it will flare 50% of the time when rpm is under 2k. If i accelerate moderately or hard it will not flare. I see some post say its torque converter locking up because something about rpm is too low in overdrive?
I also saw a tsb (11-11-11) on 2011 gt's regarding shift flare and fix was a shift solenoid.
Any auto owners experienced this or have knowledge regarding transmission would like to chime in on this?

Forgot to mention, mechanic and i went out for a test drive before i dopped my car off. I was told the upshift around 42mph is a 5-6 flare, could it really be torque converter locking up for upshifting at a such low rpm?

It's when the RPM will "flair" up between shifts. So say normally during a shift, you will see RPM decrease as the shift is executed. When a trans has a "flair" between gears, it will rise a bit (like 200-500 rpm) during the shift before hunkering down the clutches.
Some refer to it as a "slip", but usually a flair recovers quickly where a slip will just slide into gear as clutches clamp down.
In any case the trans shouldn't have any excessive flair especially if it has been driven a bit and had time to adaptive learn.
6R80 is a pretty stout unit, but any internal leaks with cut/leaking seals, orings, solenoid etc would cause shift timing to be off.
