Over a month - still no VIN

Ordered July 3. Dealer said I'd hear from him re. a VIN by early August. I'm going to give him until Aug. 10, and then it's no longer early August.

Am I too impatient, or do I have a legitimate gripe?

I wouldn't worry. I think the Plant has gone to one shift.

I think you have a gripe. I ordered mine July 6, and did all I could to delay the build for Job2. I've had a VIN for a couple weeks now, and my window sticker showed up today. My salesman does contact me weekly, updates or not. I made it very clear this was an emotional process, and I expect to be kept informed. He hasn't let me down yet! Good luck.

It took me a little over a month to get a VIN. It depends on your dealership's allocation, if they aren't allocated to have a mustang built yet then you won't get a VIN. Most likely your VIN is on it's way.

Thanks. I appreciate your insight. I'll call my dealer next week and tell him to keep me up to date regularly, whether he knows anything or not. He seems like a good guy, but I had hoped for better communication.

I am aware of the shutdown, thanks. I realize that may be contributing to the long wait. Do you think mine will be built on Job 2 because of this delay?

I'm going to say yes because I got my Vin a good 2 weeks before the window sticker came online, and then it was scheduled a week from that (but it was probably delayed a bit from the shut down as well). So I say it's a pretty good chance of being built during Job 2

Hey man, ordered 6/30, still no VIN either. I wonder if mine will be Job 2 as well... I suppose that it's certainly a strong possiblity, being that we're only ten days away from Job 2 and we don't have a VIN.

The dealership you ordered from - was it large or small?

I just hope I can get my car before mid-October - going on vacation for a week and I'd go nuts if my car was sitting at the dealership (i.e. used as the dealer demo without my knowledge) for a week.

Your dealer should be able to tell you when your order is going to pull. They should know their next month or so of allocation and how many orders they have ahead of you. Plus or minus a week they should be able to tell you when the order will get pulled.

Problem is, most dealers (at least in NJ) will deny they have any knowledge of this... all I've gotten out of my dealer so far is this: "We'll let you know when you have a VIN #. It could be tomorrow or a month... we just don't know when."

I think they just don't want to be pinned for a certain time-span, because if they're wrong, they look bad. Once I have the VIN #, I can call Ford CS for status updates, so it's on Ford from there on out.

A relatively large dealership, it seems to me. Located in the heavily populated North Shore of Chicago right on the highway. Lots of cars on the lot. Not sure what their volume is or how it compares to others.
