As far as the Mustang goes, I've been a fan of Mustangs since I was a kid But lost intrest from the 99 "new edge" redesign through the 05-09 s197 redesign for whatever reasons (mostly the interiors and the tacked on scoops I'd guess) But when I saw the '10s I was hooked all over again.
My sentiments exactly. Although, I personally think the Challenger looks great, for a two-ton+ behemoth.

My 1st car was a Mustang II Cobra II back in high school. Always had a soft spot for Mustangs since then. between my wife and I we've had an Impreza, RX-7, Tiburon, Neon and Liberty. When my turn came up for another car, the 05 came out, and it was time to get back in the saddle.

I too, was a Chevy girl...69 SS396, 77 Z28....but I rented a Stang in 98 and that did it. I just loved it, even though it was a V6. PLUS Stang had a V8 convertible, cheaper than a Vette and can be driven in the Winter with snow tires/rims. That was 12 years ago and I'm on my 3rd Stang. Love the history of the car and they look and perform great.

And no..my Stang now hibernates Winters in Chicago.

I am a diehard FORD and BMW guy. I personally like the looks of the Mustang far better than the 5th Gen Camaro. I do like the Challenger also but the Mustang wins out overall. However I do like 4th gen Camaros and Trans Ams.

I have owned a Mustang since the 70's. 70 Mach 1, 83 GT and my current 90 LX 5.0. No real choice for me but to buy another Mustang. I have just been waiting for this well rounded GT to come along. The question is, buy now or wait for the 50th anniversary. Whatever I choose, I will probably keep it for a long time.

Since I was little had this framed poster of a 65 red covertable mustang. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Then came Jr High and the 96 models came out and I instantly fell in love with them. Then I started doing models of all different kinds of Mustangs. Its fun to learn all the parts of the car when you're building it. Anyways, When HIgh school came around the 2000 models were out. And man I fell i love with a Black 2002 Mustang GT down the street, the guy had lowered it, put the Mach1 front lip, and a set of 2000 Cobra R rims in chrome. Stunning car. And then one day my mom tells me they just got a 67 mustang for free. OMFG! I had never been happier(execpt the day I lost my virginity lol). They worked at a mobilehome dealership and when someone didnt have enough money to put down, people would trade things. And they ended up getting a Blue hardtop 67 Mustang with a 289. So anyways around the same time the first girl I ever loved broke up with me, needless to say I was completly crushed. And I remember crying and walking up to the 67 outside of the Mobile Home dealership and finally sitting in. And man all sadness left me I was so overcome with joy on how I'd fix this car up into shape and come senior year I can have not just any car but my favorite year Mustang in one of my favorite colors. But then one day I get home from school and noticed the Mustang isnt in the driveway. So first thing I do i start asking questions and it turns out my mom and stepfather sold it. For about 1200!!! They didnt seam to understand why I was soo upset and didnt think I even wanted the car!! I told them walk into my room and tell me the first thing you see. Which was the framed picture of the 65 cov. But although I come on this website Multiple times a day. Look up pictures everyday of Mustangs, followed all the spy shots since the 2005 model. I have yet to own a mustang. And its funny growing up me and my brother used to watch races with Mustang and Camaros, Dont remember what league or type of racing it was. BUt I'd always go for the Mustangs and my brother would go for his favorite car, the Camaro. Although I really do think the new Camaro is a beautiful car on the exterior. The Mustang still calls to me more than any other car. If someone game me a Bugatti Veyron, I'd sell it the same day and buy a 2011 Shelby GT500 in white with silver stripes. And go crazy with the engine and leave the exterior stock. Sorry for going on for awhile but I dont post on here all that much. But I thank this site, I come only here to find my Mustang news. Hopefully one day I could make enough money to purchase my own Mustang and share it with all of you guys. Thank you for sharing yours stories and pictures. I drool over them. Just wanted to share why I would choose the Stang over the other two.

The camaro was 40 large for the v8 I wanted. I can afford it, but don't want to. Same thing with Challenger. 6.1 L was too much. Have been pleased with the things Ford is doing to turn itself around. Good quality, no bailout, etc. Haven't bought an American vehicle since 2000 (F-150) (and 4 foreign ones). I was looking at used M3s (E90s) and I wanted a fun car to drive. When I heard about the 11 GTs and what they were offering, it really interested me. Once I saw the media test reports and numbers I was sold. I was going to wait and test drive one first, but decided to go ahead and order one to get in line. Also, it's nice to order exactly what you want. I opted for a 300A spec car, which won't be popular I'm sure.

The Mustang is the best car, the Challenger is too expensive for its performance, the Camaro is a cartoon/video game creation, GM is Government Motors, and I have standards that must be met (I don't wear bow ties and neither will my cars).

I'm definitely not from a Ford family - my Dad bought a 1951 Ford in 1954, and never bought another Ford again. When I married my wife in 1974, she bought herself a 1968 Falcon. We never bought a Ford after that. Our last five Detroit cars were 4 GMs and one Chrysler, and we got rid of the last of them in 1995. Ever since, we bought only German and Japanese cars.

So, ordering a Mustang in March was a big change for us. The reasons why are pretty much described in the previous posts. I'm hoping it won't disappoint us!

+1

My first car was a '69 Mustang. I've owned many Mopars and a few Chevys in the past. In '90, having gotten tired of constantly fixing rust and wrenching every weeked, I bought the '82 GT that I still own. Several 5.0 cars followed.

In 2005, my brother-in-law bought a GT. But my DD was was 3 years old with no room in the garage until 2008. The DD was on the way out. Thought I better get one while I still can.

Then the Camaro finally came out. But I like the Challenger R/T too. Was torn between it and the Mustang until I looked at the Challenger.

Challenger
1. Huge! Body Side too flat.
2. Interior like a Polara.
3. Skip shift
4. Very few 6 speeds, hard to find one.
5. TOO Much $$$

Camaro
1. Looks like the Batmobile.
2. Can't see out of it.
3. Wheel weights on the calipers said something was wrong

Mustang
1. Got in and it fit me.
2. Drove it and it got better
3. Employee pricing and $4K rebate sealed the deal.

Been Hooked on tangs ever since I bought a 97 vert and learned how to work on it. The mod bug grabbed hold and left a mark. Then I picked up my 65 project, and it was my first ar I restored. My 03 Terminator was a blast to drive and a real head turner. The performance that car had was great. Now I have my 08 GT and I love it. Yep, its another head turner and people always give me thumbs up on the car, young or older.

I choose stangs because of the heritage. They have been around since 64 1/2 for a reason. The parts available for them is huge! The styling has always been nice..(well for the most part lol) and out of the modern muscle car, I think Ford has done the best job.

Dodge:Great car in the Challenger, but take the shell off, and its a 300...wait...a Charger....hmmm They should have built the car on its own platform, and please Mopar lower the price.

GM: Camaro..well yeah..sat in one and could not see out of it. To much adjusting this and moving that just to try to not hit my head on the roof-line, and I still could not see properly. Interior felt plastic like, and I was truly trying to figure out what was going on with the radio the way it was designed..LS3 Great engine, poor shell. Could live with the exterior, but the interior kills it. Nope not my cup of tea.

I've always been a Chevy/GM owner and a muscle car fan. I live and work in the Middle East and only get back home to Canada about one month each summer. Had been thinking about finding a nice older ride (60's/70's) in the $20-40K range (and retire my '74 Buick beater) for tooling around with on vacation, but that's not so easy to do from half way around the world...

At the same time I'd been thinking about getting a "real" car (have a company Honda) in the UAE as a toy/for the wife. Was looking at 2005-09 GT's, lots around here. That got me on to the new '10's last summer and I rented one for a week. Loved it. Then I stumbled on to the news of the '11 5.0 and that was it.

Picked up a beater '95 Z28 here for the wife (she likes it, really) and ordered a 5.0 for back home! The Mustang is much more comfortable with better mileage/performance than "classic muscle" and I won't be wasting my vacation time first looking for a car, then with all the maintenance and the like. This car should last me a while. When I really think about it, this might be the best car ever?

I don't have any unique reasons for picking the Mustang over the Camaro or Challenger. I would still pick a Camaro over a Mustang for any given year up until the Camaro went out of production after '02. Really don't like anything about this new Camaro other than the engine though. I'd love to have an LS in a new Mustang but I'll take the 5.0 and save the hassle!

Anyway, as already mentioned:

Challenger: Too big, heavy, expensive. I don't like IRS. Lame interior. Still a little smell in the air from 80's Mopars lingering... kind of like Hyundai...

Camaro: Too big in places, heavy, ugly (better in person). IRS again. Hard to see out of. "Spacy" interior. I feel GM has gone steadily down hill over the last decade or so with everything but engines and Corvettes, which still have cheap interiors...

Mustang: Weight and size advantage. I prefer the looks in and out. I'm comfortable in it. Now better performance than the others. No IRS. Sound tube! (Not really a DOHC fan yet...)

The fact that Ford didn't need any US government bail-out money makes me feel better about my choice too. Glad to reward them. I'm still not a "Ford man", but you won't hear me uttering, "Ford sucks, man", as you might have a decade or two ago. Maybe I'm growing up? Nah...

I've always leaned towards Fords products but I'm not a hard core loyalist. I prefer the size of the Mustang over the Camaro and Challenger. Smaller and lighter tends to translate into agility, and that's definitely the case in this trio. I think all three cars have nice looking bodies but I think the Mustang has the classiest interior, by a long shot. Glass Roof and Sync are huge for me. I also think I will like the character of the 5.0 DOHC engine more than I would have the pushrod motors from Dodge and Chevy. The reliability ratings tend to favor Fords these days, as well.

Lastly, there's one silly sentimental reason. I work in my family's small business and I like that Ford is still partially owned by people named Ford, and several Fords work in the "family" business.

Started looking for a car this past fall and knew I wanted a two door coupe while I could still get away with one. Was looking at the Accord and Altima coupes based on their price, fuel economy, and looks. Saw an add for the Camaro while surfing the internet one night and the 29mpg made me rethink some perceptions and expand my search. Drove a 2010 Mustang and wasn't exactly excited by it especially after driving a Camaro. Waited for the LA Auto Show after reading the rumors on this forum and was sold once I read the announcements. All my practical needs were met with a massive fun factor bonus. Now just playing the waiting game. My friends make fun of me because I started my car search in October and don't expect to have this car until mid-Summer.

If Chrysler would have taken the time to remove some lard out of the Challenger...it would be no contest. That car is about 300lbs and away from being in my driveway. However, it is a fat ***, the interior in the R/T is Caravan plain, and it feels its size in the corners. Supposedly a power upgrade coming in 2011 and a new interior, so we'll see. The SRT8 though is enough to make me do something stupid.

I don't have a mullet, and the Camaro even for how great it is and what a performance bargain and styling success it is (seriously, one in black from the front looks totally bad *** - reminds me more of a 'Cuda than a Camaro) still caries that unfortunate stigma. That and I have never been a General Motors guy. They make fantastic powertrains, just can't compel myself to purchase one.

Mustang - Hard to beat those 5.0 badges, I've owned four of them, it weighs less, makes equal power, handles like something costing $20k more made in Germany, and ironically, is not a testament to national socialism like a couple of other automakers. Plus, with the aftermarket that exists for the Mustang GT....I wonder how much Ford left on the table and how many tweaks these things are away from pulling a high-11 second run.

My uncle Charlie used to drive me around in his '65 or '66 I don't know which when I was a kid and used to let me sit in the front. Sometimes he would let me sit on his lap and steer. Since that time I loved the Mustang and has been a fan since. I'd like to do a tribute car someday.

I actually went to take a look at the new F-150s back in Fall 2008. After being a Toyota and Honda owner for years, I liked the look of the new Ford trucks, so I decided to go check them out. Suffice to say, I thought they were awesome vehicles. The fit and finish blew away my 2007 Toyota Tundra which up until that point was the holy grail of pickups in my eyes. However, I was in a lease with the Tundra and couldn't make the numbers work on the F-150.

Fast forward to Sept 2009. I moved and didn't need a pickup as much anymore and the lease was up on the Tundra, so I started to look at sports cars. First cars were imports (Acuras and BMWs), but none really worked for me for various reasons. I checked out the new Camaros and absolutely HATED them (chintzy interior and awful visibility). Never considered the Challenger. As far as I'm concerned, all newer Chrysler products except maybe the Ram truck are garbage. Then I remembered how much I liked the F-150, so I checked out the Mustang.

I looked at a 2009 Mustang on year-end closeout first, but was a little disappointed with the interior. However, once I sat in the 2010, I was hooked. Great fit and finish, super performance (coming out of a pickup truck) and dealer offered invoice minus rebate with them retaining the holdback for profit.

The tough thing is I love the Mustang TOO much. Now I want a GT500 or a Roush, but I'm settling for mods on my current car.

I've owned a few GM products in the past: a 1984 5.0 and 1987 5.7 Firebird and a 1996 Grand Am GT. All three were absolute piles of ****. Period. GM has a lot of work to do to convince me to buy one of their products again. I bought my first Mustang in 1994, a used 1989 LX 5.0. Metallic blue with black trim. I was instantlly hooked! That car was a blast to drive. Mods were pretty cheap. I did the usual bolt ons and got into the local street racing scene! It's still my favorite car, even though it couldn't hold a candle to my '08 GT. Here's to the new 5.0 exciting folks as much as the old 5.0 did. The new 5.0 has some big shoes to fill. I was greatly intrigued by the Challenger until I saw the weight and price tag. 4100 lbs.+ and 40k+, no thank you. Camaro, again I've owned two Firebirds in the past and they both sucked. The LS3 is a hell of an engine (along with the LS1) but it just didn't do it for me. Too much bad prior experience. The Mustang is the original, it's weathered the good times and bad without tucking it's tail between it's legs and hiding, it's affordable to the average Joe, and huge aftermarket support. What's not to love?

3. Pure Engineering Masterpiece of an engine
