Which Oil Separator for 2014.5 GT with Track Key?

Hi All!

Well I had intended to buy the track key for my 2014.5 GT last year but alas it was delayed and I'm back on track now. As I look at post forum posts, it looks like getting an oil separator is highly recommended if not essential. So two questions:
  • Should I get the oil separator first or can I safely get it and install after I get the track key?
  • Which oil separator should I get and what's the easiest for self install and removal of oil? Looks like there's JLT, Moroso, Bobs and the new FRPP model with a nice OEM look.

I'd love to hear your opinions in addition to any feedback from 2014.5 GT track key users and their overall experience. Thanks!

I'd go with Bob's or Moroso. I'd need more info and need to see how you empty the FRPP unit before deciding on it.

Overall experience is quite positive. It's a neat toy with the lopey idle and the performance boost is noticeable (particularly engine bragging and low end torque).

I did not notice any mileage increase or decrease. I don't drive around much with the TracKey though because it's a little much with 3.73s in heavy traffic.

I feel like I should get an oil separator. I do get some backfire type sounds when engine braking, I'm not sure it's a problem but I'm not sure it isn't either. I rarely get pinging, but it does happen occasionally. Most recently, the engine pulled timing within about 1 second and I didn't hear it for the rest of the 1 hour trip.

I am probably going to go with the FRPP piece unless our forum brethren discover a design flaw or that it's a complete waste of money. It just looks so nice, so if it does even an acceptable job I'd be happy.

I have a 2014.5 Gt Track car as well. I also have the track key... It is the best. Sounds so Bad when you use it and pull up anywhere. Everyone thinks it's total race car. Please it is louder and a much different Driving car. I also have the GT 500 AB single out.

I went with the Steeda Oil Separator. It looks fantastic and it does the Job. However I really do like the New Ford Racing one. I think I am going to get it and use the Steeda for the Drivers Side.

I am getting a track key next month, but I already have an oil separator. Actually I've had two of them, a UPR and a Bob's. IMO the Bob's is as good or better than anything else available. Bob's is very well designed and made. It's also very quick and easy to empty since it has a ball valve drain at the bottom.

I have had the Trackey in my 2014.5 GT/CS for over a year and I love it. I just purchased the Bob's oil separator but haven't installed it yet (still too cold to work in the garage). I would not worry about getting the Trackey installed before the oil separator, I have not had any problems running without one.

I just installed the Bob's Oil Separator in my 2016 GT/PP, and while it's a very nicely made unit, there are some areas for improvement, fit-wise. That said, I've read numerous reviews that rate the Bob's unit among the top, and for the price, whatever alterations I need to make to get this to fit better in the engine bay will be worth it.

The new FRPP unit looks nice, but the price is higher, and I wanted an all-metal unit with a drain valve.

Edited to include a picture of the Bob's install...

I went with the JLT myself. Very easy install. Ready to go out of the box. Required no other modifications to the car or the unit. And it looks like it belongs under the hood. Not something tacked on after the fact.

I really like my Moroso, no oil residue in the intake!
