Oil preference?

Time for my first oil change in my '14 5.0, I was thinking MC Blend 5w20 and MC filter. If I were to go full synthetic, from what i've read pennzoil ultra is the favorite right now.

You'll get all kinds of opinions here. Lol I'm using Royal Purple 5W-30 with a K&N oil filter in mine. I'd do the same if I had a new stang. I figure you can't go wrong with what is listed in the cap. I use the 5W-30 because I like to drive spirited...all the time. I like full synthetic for that same reason. I think Mobile 1 is a good choice too. Motorcrafts full synthetic is probably good too. I buy the K&N oil filter because they keep then in stock where I go to buy everything. Otherwise, I'd buy the extended life Motorcraft oil filter. MC oil filters are really good.

I have used mobile1 and k and n filters on all my cars till my mustang. I used motor craft filters and motor craft synthetic now. Oil is such a personal thing. The answers to this question will be all over.

Just got my 2014 mustang gt not to long ago and I believe I read in the manual that these cars must have synthetic oil. I would for sure only go with what is listed on the cap of your vehicle. some take 5w20 some take 5w50 don't know why but owners manual specifies this also,

most of the royal purple oils contain ingredients that will burn up the cat converters. i still use royal purple in mine though because i love their chemical make up. it i way over priced but it is good stuff. i plan to take out my cats before long anyway.

No, you're mistaken, you didn't read that in the owners manual.

Regular GT's come with 5w20 semi-synthetic, Track Pack and Boss cars come with 5w50 full synthetic, and these are the "recommended" oils for the cars.

Personally, I changed out to 5w20 Mobil 1 synthetic in my GT, and that is what I plan to stick with, along with Motorcraft oil filters.

I'm coming up on my first oil change for my 2014 GT and still have not decided what oil to use. I keep going back and forth between using the Motorcraft 5W-20 blend and the Motorcraft full synthetic. Problem with the Motorcraft full synthetic is that it's almost $8 a quart and I can get some other synthetics for less than that.

I'm really not a big synthetic fan since my experience with Mobil 1 about 10 years ago and have not used a synthetic since. I will probably just stick with the Motorcraft blend.

I did some more research and your right that 5w50 full synthetic track pack and 5w20 non track pack. It does not say full synthetic after 5w20 but the part number for 5w20 is for full synthetic WSS-M2C945-A. Also on a different page it also says USE ONLY RECOMMENDED ENGINE OILS.

not trying to start oil war here just passing along info I have found

Buy an oil that meets the manufacturer's recommended standards and change it, at minimum, when the car's oil life monitor tells you to. Beyond that, you can read hundreds of opinion posts on here.

Just curious what happened with mobil 1 that made you not use any synthetic oils anymore? Not even different brands?

I stopped by O'reilly's and was looking for mobil 1 extended performance oil and the counter guy told me they stopped selling it because their were too many engines being damaged by it.

That's a load of BS.

But you don't need the "extended performance" oil anyway, just the regular Mobil 1 synthetic.

I buy mine at walmart since they have the best price for 5 qt jugs, along with three more separate quarts.

Booger is that they don't have the correct Motorcraft filter there so I go to O'Reilly's or somewhere to get it. Think maybe I'll buy a few off of ebay and just keep them on hand. Of course, since I put so few miles on my car, it will be a while before I need one.

Before the oil war starts

I wish Wal mart would carry our Motorcraft oil filters.
