Oil change question

I just had the oil changed yesterday in my 2011 GT, and the car seemed to perform much better immediately after the change. It practically jumped away from stop lights. The pedal action seemed lighter and more responsive. I paid extra for synthetic oil. Do you think that might have made a difference? I had last had the oil changed a few thousand miles ago, so it's not like I let it go too long. But I'm thrilled with the difference.

50 hp ?? Holy Mackerel ! I must have made a huge mistake changing the oil the first time by myself since I got only 34.7 hp bump.

The oil (unless you use the wrong kind) won't affect the performance in a noticeable way. If it does, then the oil is performing a service it's not intended to perform. Unless, of course, you waited far too long and the engine is now more responsive because it has actual lubricant in it, as opposed to completely decomposed oil that has been heated far too long and provides no protection whatsoever anymore. THEN you might notice the engine behaving differently...though you will also soon begin to notice the engine not behaving at all, because it's dead on the side of the road.

11ShelbyGT500 and Flagstang are right. Of course, you could be one of those guys who thinks his car gets another 5-10 rwhp after washing and waxing it, too...

It wasn't the oil, it was the Motorcraft oil filter that gave you the increase in performance. They are good for at least a 25 HP gain.

Any chance the dealer may have updated the tune?

Not a dealer visit - just an oil change outfit.

Lol.... I don't know where to start... get some synthetic coolant too. It also has nothing to do with the HP but I'm sure you can feel it

I went to the dealer and got an oil change Saturday, I think I may have only got 22 more horses, I'm going to change out the wiper fluid hoping to eek out a few extra from there if possible...

Take it back, and demand to speak with the service manager. Tell he/she that you read on a forum you are supposed to get more gains from the oil change.

Let us know how that goes.

"Uh, yeah uh...I didn't get any horsepower boost with my oil change. I got one last time, so, like, could you tell me what's going on with that, and what you're going to do about it?"
